My friends and I are planning a week-long trip to NYC. We really don't want to spend our time sight-seeing; we're not that interested in tours or Statue of Liberty or anything. We don't want to be tourists, we want to see the real side of the city. We know there's plenty to do there, all the entertainment websites are just telling us tourist attractions, though. We want to really just have a great time and DO stuff in the city. Can anyone that's really familiar with the city give us some ideas?
One thing, we've found plenty of night clubs and such, but we need stuff to do during the day and during the week....

I plan on travel to Manila, Philippines, over the Christmas/New Year Holidays. I plan on taking my notebook computer, and will will probably use dial-up, or WiFi if I'm lucky. My question: Is it more reasonable to buy a 'card' there, for paid internet time. Last time I was there I paid for a subscription to a world-wide ISP, and it was awful expensive.
