We are taking a trip to Orlando and when we head back north we would like to stop at or near an island, somewhere peaceful where we can spend family time. We want something on the northern side of florida, either gulf side or atlantic. We would also like to research about islands off of South Carolina or any other surrounding states.

I say it's a tie between Space Mountain, and Epcot, which were
both built around the same time(late 70's). DW lost its way big
time after that, and then just starting copying other parks ideas
(MGM studios-direct ripoff of universal; Animal Kingdom-direct ripoff of San Diego zoo). The more they build the more confusing and unruly it gets. Walt Disney himself had a whole different plan
in mind that would have been awesome if it was even approximately implemented. He intended EPCOT to be a cutting-
edge residential city of approx. 100,000, with an amusement park
(MK) in the middle, just like we have parks in subdivisions(or malls,
as in Mall of America). It was intended for visitors to see these
residents living and working in a super high-tech environment,
sort of like present-day SIngapore for a rough approximation.
Lots of people-mover-y things, all mass-transit, and cities visiting
and incorporating the same ideas on a much larger scale.
What got lost in the translation?

We are hoping to leave our car in public parking area, then take public transportation to and from DC this weekend. We can drive anywhere from Frederick to connect to Public transportation, just don't want to bring a car into DC.
thank you

Bigger is not always better. In DW's case, I think the newer world,
staring with Epcot, progressively confused and bastardized the
original simple MK concept. Epcot was a mess from the start, not like what Walt envisioned at all. EPCOT(city of tomorrow), was supposed to be the fruition of what all that extra land Walt bought
was all about. The whole park was supposed to become an experimental city, with a large residential element(shades of Celebration), and cutting edge design and technology. Epcot
became instead a slightly-updated version of Tomorrowland,
and after that the overriding theme of E.P.C.O.T. was lost.
Then they amalgamted a hodgepodge of other parks ideas
to destroy completely any overriding theme(MGM studios-
rip off off universal;Animal kingdom-rip-off of San Diego zoo).
They then proceeded to build a bunch of unrelated hotel themes
more confusing than the Las vegas strip, and got too big, just
like the parent company itself. I will never forget the 70's MK!

The best airfares out of Phl. seem to go to Amsterdam and then we would connect to CPH. Any suggestions on the least expensive airline for the Amsterdam to CPH leg?
