Where can i go for the long weekend?

I living in Southern California, and am looking to get away this holiday weekend and enjoy some time near a lake or beach. i would prefer to drive no more than 4 or 5 hours. stay at a nice hotel, and maybe do some gambling and sun tanning.

What do you think of Eugene Oregon?

Does anyone hear the city name "Eugene, Oregon" and have any pre-conceived notions about the city or the people that live there?
