I living in Southern California, and am looking to get away this holiday weekend and enjoy some time near a lake or beach. i would prefer to drive no more than 4 or 5 hours. stay at a nice hotel, and maybe do some gambling and sun tanning.

any ideas?

Have you thought about driving to Vegas, The Mandalay Bay has a beach theme, this is a good spot to get away from the "normal" beach goers for the 4th ... I also recommend trying out the Oasis Spa at the Luxor if you want to be pampered, and all day pass is about $20.

How about going toward Lake Elsinore or maybe Del Mar?

You can have fun in the sun and the lake, and then the indian casinos are not very far.

I would have to say Monterrey that's where I'm going for the weekend it's beautiful and lots of things to see and a championship golf course beaches ,and a aquarium that tops the one in San Fransisco.

Well MOST hotels by the beach were booked up months ago, I would suggest planning a little earlier next time.

go down to north myrtle beach or myrtle beach in south carolina there are ships that go out and you can gamble and play all the games you could play in vegas and the beach is great you can lots of sun

Go up to Santa Barbara... Stay at the Simpson House... the beach is very close and you can go up to the Chumash Casinos ...and if your interested go do some wine tasting!

Go down near San Diego...many places to go see and things to do down there...Or have you thought about trying Catalina Island?? Dont know if they have gambling...but its quite nice over there.
