I am a distance runner, and tomorrow I will be doing the mile, the 800 m. and possibly the 4x4. The main problem is my mind. I get too stressed out. Does anyone have tips to stay relaxed?

Or at least try to adhere to the form of barefoot running (i.e. landing on ball of foot, feet directly below body, short strides, etc.)?

I've worn Nike Shox forever, and it's time for a new pair. The Nikes are comfortable for walking, but I find them not so hot for running. My husband and I have recently taken up running/jogging, and we want to buy some true "running shoes." Any suggestions from experienced runners? I have a normal arch in my feet, and pretty normal width, if that matters.

What's the fastest any white man has ever run 100m, and where and when? I believe I'm right in saying that no white man has ever run under 10 seconds. Can someone add anything to this?

I'm quite out of shape and overweight. I have a hard time running for more than 5 minutes at a time. I really want to run in next year's Crescent City Classic in New Orleans, which I think is 10 miles. I have one full year to train myself for this.

I really need advice on getting myself to run this type of race. I don't expect to win. I just want to be able to finish in a decent amount of time (maybe 9 minutes per mile or so). I want to RUN the entire thing...no walking.

I need advice from runners on how to prepare for this. Thanks!

I'm training for the half marathon. But I also like the 1600 m race. How much does endurance running help a shorter time like this?

just wondering but does anyone know how much better of a runner weighing less can make you? i've lost weight and have improved a lot but i'm not sure how much of that is because of weight loss or training harder. thanks!

Been on track team for 9 weeks and got a 12:28 my first 2 mile (on 8 week in track). I'm in highschool track and am 14 years and born in september. I'm earlier than all of them but i'm fast and buff in abs and arms and...have a good form.

Hey guys - i'm always having trouble with my boxers bunching up in my thighs and then I get rashes after a few miles into my runs.
What's the best type of underwear that I should wear? Oh, have my first half-marathon in two weeks so i don't want to have to worry about all of that stuff. Thanks in advance!

I know pavement and track running are supposed to spring more energy back into your step. Concrete I'm guessing would be horrible because there is so little give. What about running on the grass? Because it absorbs more of your step, I'm assuming it would be more difficult to run on grass, but
1. )Is it better for your knees to run on grass?
2.) Does it burn more calories? Anyone know?

I wore new sneakers with short socks to run. I didn't realize until 2.5 miles that the backs of both of my ankles w ere bleeding through the lining of my sneakers from rubbing up and down as I ran. Now they hurt when anything touches them because I rubbed off so many layers of skin. I have been wearing band-aids during the day and letting them dry at night but so far it has been 3 days and they aren't much better. I want to run today. Is there anything aside from bandaids that I can put over the cuts so I don't do more damage but can still run? I don't care about the pain, just doing more damage. I want them to heal so I can just run normal again. Suggestions?

I started running this January, and worked myself up from running for 2 minutes straight to being able to go for 25 minutes non-stop. I came down with a cold late last week that makes running nearly impossible, because I'm coughing like crazy and I can't breathe through my nose properly. It's been almost 10 days since my last run. Is there anything I can do to keep myself from losing my progress? Should I try going for runs while I'm still sick - just short ones?

Thanks!

I turn 50 tomorrow and have been in a funk for a while. I'm overweight by about 40# and have slid into a life of working a desk job, watching tv and sleeping - that's it. There's got to be more to life than this and so I thought about setting a goal of running the Chicago Marathon. Time is running out to sign up, but I'm not sure if 7 months is enough time to prepare, given the shape I'm in. It's been a long time since I regularly exercised.
