I am debating whether i should lift weights to strengthen my shoulders and quads but it seems like weightlifting should only be for sprinting becasue it tightens your muscles. Any specific lifts if yes?

we just got a new track coach. and he doesnt know much about track. i hav been running track from 3rd grade. he doesnt really work us hard , so i stay aftr and run but i really dnt know wht my work out should be. can any one help me? i can run any thing from a 100 to a 3000 n hurlds

I just got back from a track meet, I ran the 4x4 on the A team for the first time, someone else got injured. Ive run the 400 before but I havent dont it as a relay, I ended up at 53.7. I know this is a good time, but how will this place me in the next three years? Will I hit a wall?

next week is my FIRST track meet and i am terrified!! THIS is the first year that i have ever done track!!!! i am terrified to run in front of all those ppl!! especially since i have to do long-distance!! what is it like?? because i am scared. i don't wanna lose in front of so many ppl.

i am junior cross-country runner, 11th grade, i've been in 4 races, my last race i got 3rd place, in my school race i finshed 11th out of 25 other students, to some that maybe ok, but for me it was dissapointing, i was not happy at all, i could even get into the top 10, it was frustating, it will be hard to get back on my feet after that defeat.

i am a freshmen and joined track this semester "about 2 months ago" i had no idea i wanted to join. i wasnt even a good runner before high school. when i started high school about 8 months ago my best mile time was 8:00 after trying hard in P.E. at the end of the semester my best time was 7:15 in the two months i have been in track my best mile time now (two months after 7:15) is 6:00 is that a good time for someone in track? when i compete i come in like place 11 out of 15 and thats REALLY BAD! but is my time bad? i am really slow my best quarter mile time is 80 seconds, lol. I just have lots of stamina or whatever as told so by my freinds. sice i am good for running long distances before getting tired all i need is speed so 1. are my times good and do you think ill improve more and 2. do u have any tips on how i can get faster other than just keep practicing "herd it too many times..." thnx

How come some runners are against using Ipods or MP3s during road races?

If they're not allowed, that's a different story. Rules are rules. But, if they're allowed, why is there still such a big fuss amongst runners?

Okay, I'm a sprinter on my track team. Problem is, I'm one of the slowest. I work hard, but when I'm sprinting for practice, I get so tired. I try not to give up, but the space between me and the runner keeps getting bigger. I'm trying so hard, but my next meet is coming up and I'm terrified. My whole team is amazing and I really don't want to be the one who drags them down. I just don't know what to do! Any good advice out there, I need it! Like, what do you sprinters think about when you're sprinting or behind?

hey i just started track. I'm a junior in highschool and i'm a good athlete but i'm way behind as far as being in shape because everyone else has been practicing for a while now, they've even had indoor winter meets. I'm doing sprints so it shouldnt take me too long to get into good enough shape to compete. I was wondering if anyone had any tips as far as nutrition or anything else, and please dont just say run more because ill be practining everyday so thats basically an impossibility. I've been on a high protein diet and working out a lot lately and im wondering if that would be good for sprints or if i should be doing something else.
