Ok, well the first two answers... don't listen to those. Especially breathing in threw your nose and out your mouth. Unless you want to pass out because of lack of oxygen, breath in your mouth and out your mouth. Its a race, you want to get as much oxygen as possibly. Also, putting your hands flat instead of a fist will make no difference, its a pretty long race, the only time it really matters is for the shorter distances. Ankle weights.... im on a pretty well coached crosscountry/track team and my coach has never reccomended them and i wouldnt think they would help that much. At 13 you probably need to build up your endurance and cardiovacular system. You should probably run at least 4 miles a day for 5 or 6 days a week. I'm not sure how much time you can dedicate to running, but if you arent already, join a team because at 13 you're pretty fast.

Well, you should probably run your regular pace for a while, then start going just a little bit faster every few seconds or so. I've never actually tried this method before, but if it works, then hooray! :D (Hope it does, though)

NIX the weights unless you want permanent injury to your knees and ankles.

To improve, you should talk to your track coach and write down your training plan, then stick to it.

wear weights on your ankles and/or legs and run with those for awhile and when there off you'll be lighter and will be able to run faster. Just like punching with weights, after a bit you'll be able to punch faster!

You should breath in from your nose and out from your mouth. You should move your arms back and forth so they touch your chin.Keep your hands flat not in a fist.
