The guy is a hero to us Giant fans, but i'm not sure if he'll make the Hall of Fame.
If he kept playing, though.......................?

Early Candidates for the Chargers Head Coaching Gig, Pt. 2
Posted Feb 13th 2007 2:00AM by mjd
Filed under: Chargers, AFC West, NFL Coaching

1. Jimmy Johnson. John Clayton mentions here that the Spanos family has a great relationship with Jimmy Johnson. Johnson's been out of coaching for a long time, and his last gig with the Dolphins didn't go so well. He's obviously got the pedigree and the championship experience, but it seems like a risky hire to me. Every time he sits down next to Terry Bradshaw, his IQ drops 17 points. Jimmy would also enjoy the San Diego lifestyle.

2. Dennis Green. Sean Salisbury mentions here that Dennis Green is a possibility. Quote the Salisbury, "The Chargers have a perfect candidate right in San Diego and that's Dennis Green. He's an excellent candidate for a veteran team like the Chargers and probably won't demand the type of power that other more established coaches will try to get from San Diego." Ugh. My face hurts. But it does beat Mark Schlereth's suggestion to "... call the Cowboys and find out who their second best candidate was ..."

3. Mike Singletary. Singletary's another name that's been mentioned in connection with a lot of jobs, and sooner or later, he's going to get one. Singletary's currently the linebackers coach and assistant head coach in San Francisco, and if the Chargers are looking for a young up-and-comer, he could be the guy.

4. Pete Carroll, Redux. We revisit Pete Carroll because Pro Football Talk seems to believe that the Chargers and Carroll already have a deal in the bag. They've put together a list of reasons as to why this is a possibility, which you can read about here (you may have to scroll down a bit).

5. Norm Chow, Redux. And we revisit Norm Chow, because I forgot to mention one thing (and thanks to commenter Sean for bringing it up): Norm Chow coached Philip Rivers at NC State and thought the world of him. He once said, "I told people before the draft, whoever got Philip Rivers was going to the Super Bowl in three years."

Running back Tiki Barber retired and they just cut OT Luke Petitgout and LBs LaVar Arrington and Carlos Emmons.
I'm thinking they should go after an offensive lineman who can go three plays without a false start.

In possibly the silliest move I've heard of in football in the last six months, the Chargers fired head coach Marty Schottenheimer. Why would you fire a coach that helped to revive the franchise? I don't care if the coaching staff fell apart in the last month. He was still at the forefront, and was doing a good job. If anybody should be fired, why not A.J. Smith, the GM?

I know he's married but could there be any truth to this? Here in Detroit he was seen at the Back Door Club last week, a known hangout for bisexuals. But I am wondering if it's true, the Back Door Club is in my neighborhood and it's all african-american around here. Could he have been with friends?

Who do you guys think the bears should choose with the 31st pick in the draft?

I think they should choose Greg Olson, Zach Miller or Troy Smith (if available).

positions were filled? I know tons of teams would have killed to have been able to hire Marty Schottenheimer.

AJ Smith is pretty much a spoiled little brat who is obviously sleeping w/ the owner. 14-2? Dude... weak

I was thinking someone like Derrick Brooks, becuase of his expirience in the media and on and off the field. He also is a leader which is very helpful for the younger players. and last but not least hes a very very good football player which helps a little.

Spanos better have a real ace up his sleeve. Especially considering he let Wade Phillips AND Cam Cameron "get away". So who do you think his "mystery" pick for coach is. And I am praying he's got one. Pete Carroll? Doubtful. Bill Parcels? You tell me.
