Of course they are, they are the Chargers, They never won a Super Bowl in franchise history, not that Marty was going to do that for them, but damn, How can you fire a coach after the season they had, I think Al Davis is Advising them.

Just like the team with the upside down logo to the left, the Bolts are like the homeowner who spots a termite and decides that burning the house down is the best way to get rid of it.
As the coaches under Marty departed, it seemed to me that the Chargers didn't have a long range plan. I understand that everyone has a right to become a head coach, but the team comes first. In this day and age of Sports Business, I think the front office is more concerned with generating revenue that winning the championship.

Chargers? Do you mean those who only use credit cards? Absolutely...
As for the football team, as a whole, I don't think so. Schott and AJ Smith were having issues for awhile now, at least dating back to Brees being allowed to leave. I'm betting there are plans Smith has that would have widened that gap even further. Probably was a good time to end the relationship...and I'm pretty sure they already know who the replacement is.

Compared to who-the Raiders? The Chargers are a championship team in the next few years. Indy won this year because they learned so much from losing to the Pats every year-it seems the Chargers are going the same road. I like Edwards #59-very underated.

They did what they had to do. Marty was a lame-duck coach, he wasn't coming back after next year regardless. That makes for a tough situation in trying to get new coordinators. Firing Marty makes all the sense in the world if you think about it. Now they have one of most enticing head coaching positions to ever open up in nfl history, imagine jumping right into the most talented team in football and getting to do that in america's finest city. There won't be any shortage of applicants, and having a coach that's under contract for more than a year will make it easier to fill the other coaching positions. It had to be done, Marty hasn't won a playoff game in well over a decade. Regardless of who they get to coach, this team is going to be a contender, they're the best team in football. I think they could have handled the situation better, but they made the smart decision for the future of the team.

I think the Chargers front office will be sorry for this move. Hey me might of lost a big playoff game against the Patriots, but all the teams who's season was over and sitting at home are thinking he going to get that monkey off the back one day and will pick him up. Don't you know all these teams that hire new coaches this season wish they would of done it earlier.

I have never been a supporter of Shittenhiemer, in fact I detest the jerk. However with this ovbiously incompetent GM, I can see the Chargers going on a long downhill slide. 14-2 and no Superbowl is better than 8-8 and no Superbowl.

I think they are cutting their own throats. A new coach will break the current team up and get his own guys in. If it hadn't been for one boneheaded defensive play when the interceptor should have gone down instead of trying to make a big play, San Diego would probably have gobe to the Superbowl. The same thing happened in 1986 with Ernest Byner's fumble in the AFC chmpionship v Denver. Schottenheimer had no control over either event. Marty got shafted. Admittedly he flopped with The Redskins.

The Chargers made the right move. Marty Shottenheimer is a bum, he doesn't know how to get to the superbowl, nor has he ever won. He had two shots at potentially making it far, but "marty-Ba;;" just isn't cutting it. There will be someone to fill his spot in moments, Cowher??? Green?? Tice??? tons of better choices that Marty Shottenheimer.

I only say yes because ALL THE DECENT COACHES HAVE BEEN PICKED UP ALREADY! Unless they convince Bill Parcells to head west, I don't know who they plan on convincing to coach. If they wanted to fire Marty so bad, they should've fired him a month ago so they could've interviewed candidates OR promoted Cam Cameron OR Wade Phillips to coach. Now they have NO head coach, NO Offensive Coordinator, and NO Defensive Coordinator. I'm shocked..the Chargers are usually better than this with their personnel decisions

No.
The Bolts fired Marty because AJ Smith pratically wanted to kill him. He was a good coach. I liked him. You can't blame only him for the playoff loss. The Bolts went 14-2! He went away from Martyball! You have to give Marty some credit for that. I will start to question AJ though if we let Donnie and Dielman go. We really need to sign both of them. Donnie is a tackling machine.
