Best Mountain Bike to buy for some XC racing and lots of weekend fun?

It's a good problem to have, I know. But it is a tough one. What's the best bike to buy that'll do everything from XC 'racing' (by this I mean finishing in the middle on a good day) and ripping around the forest with wheels mostly on the ground. My priority is a good climber - I need all the help I can get!

I've been thinking about an Epithany, 08 Yeti 575, IBIS, or a Turner Spot.

Budget is to around USD $7-8k.

Why doesn't the NHL use the shootout in the playoffs?

Okay, before everyone just goes off on me for asking this question, just think about it.

Why shouldnt the nhl use a shootout to decide playoff games? You cant say that a regular season game isnt important- last season, the eastern conference was decided on a single shootout.

If the shootout isn't used in the playoffs, why should it be used in the regular season?

BTW- I'm not saying I am for or against this, I just want to hear people's opinions on this issue.

Hero or cheater?

Just in, but not new. Barry Bonds indicted for purgery/making false statements in connection with an accusation of steroid use. Which is basically confirming that he in fact, did use steroids from 2001 to whenever he was smart enough to stop, if he was even that smart.

Bonds turns to roids just to beat Hank Aaron's home run record.

Believe what you may, but here's the real question. How do we as sports fans, as a society, hold professional athletes accountable for what amounts to cheating? Should my five year old look up to a man who would cheapen the all American past time of baseball just to score a few more homeruns?

Personally, I am outraged and I for one never believed he got even close to beating Hank's record.
