Let's talk professional ice hockey.
Poor Buffalo is the hard-luck kid of any major American city. Their football Bills lose 4 straight Super-Bowls in a row--one over a lousy bad kick. The Sabres lose in the NHL Stanley Cup finals to Dallas in 1999 after endless periods of overtime over a highly controversial goal.
With the advent of deindustrialisation, this once huge manufacturing city of Buffalo in the last 27 years has lost more in population and jobs than any major region in the USA. The Siberian winters are legendary, yet the native Buffalonians keep taking it like a punchy boxer in the final round of a blood fest.
If you could invision what Ewan MacColl had in mind when he wrote the folk song, "Dirty Old Town," you'd immediately think of Buffalo.
Poor ol' Buffalo, New York.
Hey, I know I'm rooting for these guys.
PS I like the old retro uniforms the best and the new blue and gold are catchy too. Anyway, Buffalo, good luck. The world will be watching.
