Steve Yzerman! He represented everything a good athlete should be! I miss him on the Wings!

I think the most magical player to ever play the game that ive ever gotten alot of time to watch was Mario Lemiuex! He was amazing and he deserves his nickname, Super Mario!

Cam Neely was an awesome presence on the ice too. He was both a physical and talented hockey player.

Ray Bourque,Nick Lindstrom, and Chris Chelios are probably the best defensemen to play the game in the last 20 to 25 years.

Brett Hull is another guy that i can never forget about. He was a true sniper with his fast and accurate shot and i was completely blown away when I heard he was coming to Detroit!

But for my favorite player, it is a dead tie between Steve Yzerman and Super Mario. Steve Yzerman gave me my favorite hockey moment when he scored the game winning goal against St. Louis in double overtime with that slapshot from the blue line! I was about ten or eleven years old and I was up late watching it and i was jumping up and down on the couch cheering with my mom at 2 a.m.

As for Mario, his battles with his disease and coming back to hockey to take the scoring title was just awesome. There will never be another player as magical as Super Mario!

Jean Beliveau.....he has no peer when it came to wearing the "C" on his jersey, and when it comes to pure class and the way he represented himself and the Canadiens. As he went, the Canadiens went. Case in point, the 1967-68 Canadiens. When Beliveau was injured and out of action, by the time the first half of the season was over, the Canadiens were in last place in the NHL east, with only 31 points. When Beliveau returned, the team went on a tear. In the last half of the season the Canadiens amassed 64 points, finished first overall in the league, won 12 out of 13 playoff games, winning the Stanley Cup. Not only did he give the team his skill, he was a true psychological catalyst that motivated the team.

I've always been a big fan of Joe Sakic. You couldn't ask for a better Captain, never dirty or cheap. Never whines. Always does his part.
Another one of my favorites is Brendan Shannahan. He always played for the Red Wings, so I was forced to dislike him (being an Avs and a Jackets fan, it's programed in my brain lol), but now I'm older and can look back on what he's accomplished over his career. He is a great leader and is very unselfish. What I like most is that he'll stand up to anyone, including the league's biggest goon, Donald Brashear.

Steve Yzerman of the Red Wings. He played there his whole career and still lives there and works in the front office for the Wings. He was captain of the team longer than any player in the NHL has ever been captain. He is an awesome man as well and has done great stuff for the community.

I missed out on most of Gretzky's career, so he unfortunately does not appear on my list.

1. Mark Recchi of the Pens, Flyers, Canadiens, back to the Flyers, Hurricanes and back to Pittsburgh one more time. I like him enough to have overcome my dislike of the Flyers, which is saying a lot.

2. Mario Lemieux. I grew up in the early 90s in Pittsburgh. Which makes him my God.

3. Sidney Crosby. He might move up, depending on how the rest of his career goes.
