Let's talk professional ice hockey.

Poor Buffalo is the hard-luck kid of any major American city. Their football Bills lose 4 straight Super-Bowls in a row--one over a lousy bad kick. The Sabres lose in the NHL Stanley Cup finals to Dallas in 1999 after endless periods of overtime over a highly controversial goal.

With the advent of deindustrialisation, this once huge manufacturing city of Buffalo in the last 27 years has lost more in population and jobs than any major region in the USA. The Siberian winters are legendary, yet the native Buffalonians keep taking it like a punchy boxer in the final round of a blood fest.

If you could invision what Ewan MacColl had in mind when he wrote the folk song, "Dirty Old Town," you'd immediately think of Buffalo.

Poor ol' Buffalo, New York.

Hey, I know I'm rooting for these guys.

PS I like the old retro uniforms the best and the new blue and gold are catchy too. Anyway, Buffalo, good luck. The world will be watching.

Well i think that if they can get past the Rangers who played like rock stars in the first round of the playoffs i think they have a pretty good chance. I mean they are one if not the best in hockey at the moment. Just my opinion

Go ahead and root, but don't bet any money. If I were on a major league team and my team and Buffalo were both in the playoffs, I would attend any game in buffalo that i could, & I would be cheering them on louder than anybody there. "cause I 'd know that if Buffalo made the finals, my team would win the championship! BTW Buffalonions are'nt losers, they're New Yorkers. The other states take our jobs because they have lower taxes, but some day we will figure out a way to get even!

I'm from Buffalo and unless the team skates the way they can, I don't think they'll get out of the 3rd-Round. I think we'll take the Rangers in 6 but like I said, if we don't skate the way we can, the Devils or Sens would probably take us in the 4th-round. Miller hasn't shown me yet that he is a playoff goalie. He needs to be able to prove to Buffalo and the rest of the fans around the world that he can steal a game here and there. Go Sabres!

I've had Ryan Miller on my fantasy team for the better part of this season, and I gotta tell you, at 2.73 and .911, his GAA and save percentage at the end of the season are only just slightly better than the league average. The team relies on their speed to out-skate opponents and score more goals than they get scored against them.

I think a good measure for the Sabres will be how they do in the upcoming series against the Rangers, who, oddly enough, are probably the only team in the Eastern Conference capable of stopping the Sabres. The Rangers have a very strong fore-check and quite possibly one of the most deadly power plays coming down the stretch. Add to that 3 lines scoring goals, each playing a completely different style of hockey, and a goaltender with an Olympic gold medal in his trophy rack, and the Sabres have their work cut out for them.

If the Rangers bring all they got and play like it, and the Sabres still win the series, then yes, they're probably going all the way. They will have to bring it though, more-so than against the Islanders. Otherwise, the Rangers will roll right over them and we'll be seeing the Sabres at tee time.

I'd have to second Chad K's response with another

GO WINGS!!

I live in Buffalo right now, going to UB, and I have to say, after living in Detroit for 12 years (my first 12) and being a diehard wings fan, seeing the bandwagon-jumpers and cocky SOB's here in Buffalo really makes me hope they lose. Its nothing against the team, they're what Buffalo sports fans have been hoping to get for a long time. But with all this "Sabres are going to win, no one else comes close" crap, I'm kind of glad they probably wont win. Yeah they had the best record in the NHL, but the East is a lot softer than the west. 4 out of 8 teams broke 100 points as opposed to 7 out of 8 in the west.

I dont know why I just ranted, probably venting about all the "big fans" here that never liked hockey until the Sabres won the President's trophy....

GO WINGS!!

No, they will have to go through the Sharks and that's when their season will end. Buffalo is quick with alot of talent but do they have the size to handle SJ? A Buffalo vs SJ would make for a very high scoring and exciting series in my opinion.

P.S. - I love the Sharks alternate black 3rd jerseys.

Unfortunately for Buffalo fans, they'll have to suffer a little longer since the Rangers are going to knock them out in 6 games. Better luck next year I guess.

Wow nice mantra on your view of Buffalo. Have you been to Buffalo or even New york state? I would think you could make some noise about the "wild weather " Buffalo has. (what no blizzard of 77 remarks) Now that we have your long winded explanation of Buffalo, and your keen knowledge of folk music , want to talk about Hockey? Please don't say a word unless you actually know something about hockey.

Hate to break it to you but the Sabres are not going to make it past the second round. Rangers will knock them out in 5.
