I think it's finally their year. The Sabres are the fastest team in the NHL, no question. The rule changes totally played into this for them, as their transition game is unrivaled.
The Sabres are the blueprint for success under the new rules. Speed and stickhandling will become more important than size and strength. Finesse will win out over grunt. Think of this as the 'West Coast Offense' of hockey- it's a new system that works great if the players have the right skills and can execute it correctly.
The Sabres have depth, which they proved when many of their best starters were injured at the end of the season. This also gave many bench players valuable ice time right before the playoff run.
The top players all returned for the playoffs, and are now back up to form after the series with the Islanders.
If the Sabres don't go all the way, it will say plenty for the team that beats them. I don't think anyone can touch them this year, but next year lots of other teams will be structured like them and it'll be tougher.
If Miller is on and healthy (and he usually is), I don't think the Sabres can be beat this year. They are simply too fast, too talented, and too committed. Lindy Ruff has done an excellent job of team building, and the rules changes have played right into his strategy.

The sabres have a great team with a lot of depth and they get the most of out their lines rolling 4 of them but since trading Biron, Ryan Miller does not have a reliable backup to give Miller a break or give the team a lift if Miller is struggling. I think that's going to cost them down the road and I don't think the Rangers are an easy matchup consider how well they have played the past month and they swept a very good Atlanta team. If they do get past the Rangers, which I expect they will, I think they'll run out of steam in the Conference Finals. They have a great young team and have the potential to make a number of successful playoff runs in the upcoming seasons.

Either the Devils or Ottawa can potentially take out the Sabres. But whether they will do it can only be seen with time. The Rangers will put up a good fight but I doubt they can take the series.
