I was at a local huge retailer today, I have been looking at TV's and was hoping to find what I was looking for ! many customers where doing this as well. on one particular TV there was CNN on and it showed some victims bombed in some place in the world .PPl where mourning the loved ones they had lost and tears where going down this elderly lady's cheeks ( i think she was palestinian or Iraqi -not sure! I suffer terribly when I see that stuff -they showed blood and bodies ! I 'm not sure how long I was standing there , I had blocked out all sounds
it seemed! then the sound came back and I realized a family next to me where looking at the same TV - but laughing , and saying how cool the TV's picture was -news still showing the terror and blood. I watched the family laughing and looking closer at the TV ,when the woman of the potential buying family turned around I saw a huge cross around her neck!
my throat closed!
merry Christmas??????are you sure it's merry?
They bought it!

Jesus was liberal and was for peace and love.

If there is no god, no karma then why help others.

Shouldn't atheists be conservatives, life is in your hands not someone elses.

Shouldn't Christians be liberals, feed the poor don't fight wars, he who is without sin cast the first stone, this life isn't as important as the next so do good.

BTW I'm a conservative agnostic.

He knew what was going to happen when he created our existence so why would he do any of this unless he was looking for glorification? Was he bored one day so he made us?

There was a question earlier this week from an atheists how we, the believers, would live if there was no God. I'd like to extend the same hypothetical question. If biblical God did exist, what would do and how will you live? This is in no way I'm trying to convence you of God's existence. It's purely hypothetical so please no flames please.

It's not like we go any other time of the year, and she's far from being a bible thumper, but its a "tradition".

I'd much rather spend time with the family (which, by the way, is where it's really at...look no further).

Any suggestions?

I've just come back from visiting my husband who is in hospital and it made me realise how much we depend on the professionalism and dedication of others - doctors, nurses, surgeons, firemen, air/sea/mountain rescue volunteers and the police (yes, the guys who have to sort out the carnage after road traffic fatalities and domestic/child abuse, etc). Sometimes we take them for granted.

Can we remember them in our prayers, especially over the festive season when they will be working? Let's thank God for the invaluable service they give to society and (in some instances) for putting their lives on the line to help others.

From me to you - God bless and THANK YOU.

This is a figurative term. So with that in mind what would complete this:
The Devil is my ___________.

I've taken college level classes on what do we know about war and the thing is i must of have been sick the day they said religion was the cause of all wars added their is no historical or emperical evidence to suggest it would be. So why do people who are uneducated about world politics say it is a cause of war?

NAME ONE WAR IN THE HISTORY OF THIS PLANET THAT WAS CAUSED BY RELIGION?

(palestine and Israel are fighing over control of the region, so the cause is terrirtory NOT RELIGION)

In addition it would be very nice if you could use some emprical evidence or writing to prove it is.

Genesis 6:4 says:

"The Nephilim proved to be in the earth in those days, AND ALSO AFTER THAT..." (my caps added)

Then when the spies reported back to the Israelites on what the land of Canaan was like they said (Numbers 13:32,33):

"The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in the midst of it are men of extraordinary size. And there we saw the Nephilim..."

I'm not trying to make a big issue out of this, I just find it interesting.

So the miracles of Christ have been touted by many professional magicians as fraud. They base this on the fact that every miracle the bible reports could be done as a trick. Yes even raising the dead. Scientists since the age of reason have given many scientific explanations for every miracle of the bible. However is that reasonable. Is it scientific to rule out the possibility of the unknown? If something has an explanation in illusion or science does that negate a reasonable possibility of something beyond current reason. Skeptics use reality as their grounds and the spiritual use faith. How does realism or faith answer what is not yet known? When confronted with faith or skepticism how do you answer the unknown or seemingly impossible.

I am having a problem with my homosexuality again, does anyone have any advice? I am feeling pretty low right now, so encouragement would be very much appreciated. Ever since I have become a Christian, I have been attacked harder by temptation it seems.

I also posted this question in Philosophy but got little response.

A significant number of people point to evolution as the source of morality. Here is a representative statement:

"There is a strong desire to help when we see someone in need. This desire has been developed in our brains over millions of years of evolution. This desire to help is the basis of morality."

My question is this. We know that mindless evolution doesn't "care" about the individual, only about gene survival. Evolution has created this desire to help, thus sometimes causing us to sacrifice our own self interest. Shouldn't I put this desire to help to a rational test? Why should I allow myself to be pushed around by this irrational, evolution-designed desire? BTW, I think most people do put their initial desire to help to a rational test. And if we place a rational test on the desire, then that desire is no longer the standard. Isn't the real standard self-interest?

If we are saved by faith alone, why does James 2:24 say that we do NOT restore a right relationship with God (i.e., justification) by faith alone?

James further says (2:17), "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." If faith inescapably implies the action of good works, why would James warn us against faith without works?

Does Jesus in same chapter (of John), say that I , father, and all of you (12 deciphers) are One.
Does it mean that there are 14 Gods one should worship.

i'm catholic and pro choice, and have been told by many people that i shouldn't call myself a catholic because i am pro choice... not like i'm gonna listen to anyone anyways... but this is my question mainly for the people who told me i'm going to hell for my views

don't you think there are SOME circumstances where an abortion would be alright?

like this:
say a woman gets pregnant and halfway through the pregancy and is told by her doctor that she will most likely die if she continued with the preganancy and the baby wouldn't be able to survive in an incubator if it was removed. she is basically told she must have an abortion.

this isn't something i made up, i've read about this happening... so what will it be? do you still believe that abortion is wrong in this case? either way the baby will die, but if the woman has an abortion she can still save her own life...
