what would be your reaction if one of your fellow atheist friend or family turn to christianity

2007-12-18 07:56:45 · 35 answers · asked by Anonymous

didn't really get much of a christian response last time i asked this question:

what could you tell me about the people who painted the da vinci's mona lisa, dali's vertigo, van gogh's starry night, or picasso's femme à la montre? would you be able to come to the conclusion that there was only one painter who painted all of them? would you be able to tell me why any of the artists painted any of them? could you tell me anything about any of their life's details? no. this is why i don't jive with this whole watchmaker analogy. how is it people can come to so many conclusions about a creator of the universe, if such a being does exist, just based on the fact that universe exists? it's one thing to say that there must be a creator. it's a whole other ball of wax though to assume that you know anything about who that creator is, if there is only one creator at all, and to assume you know what that creator thinks or wants. that, to me, seems more arrogant than anything. don't you think?

In the immortal words of Mr. Rodney King, "Why can't we all just get along?!?"

Been reading about Prophet Isa and it astonishes me that we are all talking about the same thing... yet, we are worlds apart. Why do you think we can't find common ground?

Hi, I have a Christian fellowship group. http://christianchitchat.org. We would like to send snail mail cards to the lonely, ill, elderly, or anyone who would be blessed by receiving cards. Does anyone know of any sites where we can find those that would enjoy receiving our cards.
Thanks so much.
God Bless,
Lori

Just thinking about praising God for all eternity really makes me want to have a cigarrette. I hate waiting in line.

If not, then what?

I was born into a Christian family and most of my friends are Christian. But I just always had a hard time having faith and recently I've came to the decision that I'm Atheist.

Hi There,

Me and my wife have a religious dispute over our kids school, when we were looking for a school to send our kids to we looked at several local state schools and were not impressed at all. So we made the decision to look at a Catholic Private school, (an all girls school) we went to look at the school and were immediately impressed by their facilities, they have an excelled academic record and over 95% pass rate for kids graduating (it’s a all in one school where the kids stay from starting to finishing school)

Our problem is that we are not catholic; we are actually from as pagan based religion. We made the school aware of this and we also made them aware that our children wore pentagrams, they school said that was fine so long as they wore them under their clothes and out of sight, we agreed to those terms and enlisted our children in the school, paid for their first years tuition, bought their uniforms and school branded note books and stationary and they started school at the start of the last school year.

Everything has been fine up until now when the school has changed principles and the new principle is forcing our kids to attend mass, and is telling us unless our children stop wearing their pentagrams and attend mass and religious studies he is going to expel them from school. Our kids wear very expensive solid silver pentagrams on a gold chain, the principle took them off our kids and refused to let them wear them, he also instructed the teachers to check to see if the kids were wearing them at the start of every lesson and has wrote is very nasty letters saying that we are “disgracing the school by sending our children to school wearing symbols of the devil” in those exact words

I just want to know if we have any legal standing, we want our kids to keep attending that school because of its excellent record and pass rate, but this new principle seems to be putting his religion above our childrens education

So is there anything that we can do?

Why not when they fumble, or strike out, or miss a foul shot? It seems hypocritical to me that thye only show these signs when good happens. It must be Satan that is influencing the play when bad things happen. Maybe the other teams should point skyward when bad thngs happen to their opponents, or would that be unsportsmanlike?

what if i didn't say the whole thing?
i have some mental problem, having unwanted thoughts, trust me i don't want to say that kind of stuff nor do i need to, so i kept saying it in my mind, so i got frustrated, so i MAYBE said it out loud to make it worse, so i won't be horsing around or be uncomfortable saying it in my mind

I need help writing a wedding ceremony that is wiccan and christian. One that has aspects of both religions but won't offend anyone. One where the christian family members will like and also the wiccan ones. Something that may not be considered "wiccan" but the wiccans will know.

Why is it so difficult for me to pray? I love the idea of having someone to look after me, and I also like the thought of praying for other people, but I have so much doubt as to whether God exists. It just gets in the way. Any ideas?

For those (atheists) to understand that the reason that we believe or choose to follow God, is because he is the only one (thing) in our lives that promises eternal love for us (and for you)? Isn't that what everyone wants? And do you think that those who do follow Him, would continue if they didn't get what they were looking for?

Did Jesus say that he had a new law that was going to take the place of the old testament laws? So instead of following all those laws and dos and don'ts, now what we have to do is love our neighbor as ourself.

So why are there still a lot of christians who hate non-christians and try to get to heaven on faith, works, what you do or don't do, or whatever? Maybe they never hear about Jesus new law?
