Following laws is easier than loving the way Jesus told us to. Loving requires thought and dedication and lots of times is more frustrating than rewarding.
Following laws is simple compared to that. I doubt that the Christians who do this never heard about Jesus's new law. I don't think they're necessarily evil, just lazy.

The New Testament LAW is the same as the Old Testament LAW. A testament (or covenant) is a contract. And the major difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is not the LAW, but the people with whom God makes the contract with.
Hebrews 8:7-10 -- For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because FINDING FAULT WITH THEM, He says: "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah--not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because THEY DID NOT CONTINUE IN MY COVENANT, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws {THE SAME LAWS} in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
The LAW is not new; God's law always has been the expression of love.
1 John 5:3 -- For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

I often have these kinds of thoughts, but I try to remember that it is not my job to judge those kinds of Christians that you mention. People are not perfect, and this goes for you and I too. Do you truly love everyone selflessly? Have you never had a bad thought? As Christians, it's important that we strive for God's perfection, but at the same time realize that we can never get there.
By the way, Jesus did bring us a new covenant, but this does not contradict the old one. We've all heard people describe the Old Testament God as angry and vengeful, and Jesus as happy and nice. But these are gross oversimplifications. God is. Period. Our job, as followers, is to serve and set a good example for others.

Jesus was the fulfillment of the law he did not change it.
with Jesus came the forgiveness of breaking the law. if you do not follow Jesus and repent when you break the law then you will be held as accountable as those before Jesus died for the remission of your sins.

Jesus is our example, if we live the way he did, the way the apostles taught, we are living according to the new law. The old law was a schoolmaster until Jesus came.

He didn't say He came to replace the law, He came to fulfill the law. And He said that their are TWO greatest commandments...Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and strength AND love thy neighbor as thyself. Faith is necessary for heaven and works are an outward expression of our faith.
On a side note, could you do somtehing with your avatar? For whatever reason, it frightens me!

No.Not at all.Jesus fulfilled the Law.What He Brought was a New Covenant of Grace that nullified ritual sacrifice and works.Instead of citing numerous passages I would direct you to the book of Hebrews that explains this in great detail. No longer are lambs slaughtered, for the Lamb of God shed His Blood once and for all to cover all sins for those that are Believers.

Shema Yisrael, Hear O Israel. (Central prayer in Judaism).
"You shall love Yahweh your God with all your mind, body and soul."
The second is this,"Love you neighbor as yourself." That is the sum of the old law and the new law.
Never forget about the first part about loving God first. If don't believe the first, then don't worry about the second. Shalom.

Jesus said he did not come to "abolish" the law, but to fullfill it.
We still have to obey the 10 commandments, the moral life, resist sin do good, grow in holiness and God's sanctifying grace which makes it possible. We are called to obey the church authorities as Jesus himself, thats why Jesus said, he who hears you, hears me, and he who rejects you, rejects also me. So dont reject the leaders of Christs holy catholic church, he built his church on sinful apostles, but we still must obey them, and confess to them. our sins, in order to be forgiven. Whos sins ye shall forgive, they are forgiven them.
