In the immortal words of Mr. Rodney King, "Why can't we all just get along?!?"
Been reading about Prophet Isa and it astonishes me that we are all talking about the same thing... yet, we are worlds apart. Why do you think we can't find common ground?

I appreciate all the links and the views... as I want to decide for myself what is true. I did not mean to imply that there is not tolerance for other religions; on either side.
I realize a lot of misguidance has to do with fundamentalists... I am just surprised to see how many commonalities exist between the two beliefs; yet, how uncompromising both sides can be... almost as if, the more we think we are different, the more similar we actually become.

Either way you go... Jesus/Isa, son of god, or mere prophet... he was an amazing individual... I, personally, think I am going to focus more on that.

Well, first of all it takes a desire to get along. Those of us that want to get along, well... do! Those of us that would rather remain apart... well you see what's going on with them...

Muslims don't believe that Christ was the Son of God, a divine being who incarnated in Jesus. Muslims think Jesus "only" was a wise man, a prophet. And Mohammed so to say overrules Jesus because Mohammed was later.
I like to study religion a lot and I think it's very superficial to say that "it's all the same, why don't we just be nice to each other". For example, Islam is a religion of rules and gestures. If you apply strict rules and rituals, e.g. washing yourself 5 times a day before prayer in a strictly prescribed manner, then you are obeying God. If you wash yourself in a slightly different manner, you are offending God. God is kind of a angry, stern father.
Christ however said.... all rules come down to only two: love your neighbour AS yourself (not 'instead of' or 'more than') and God above all.
Islam always has been a worldly religion. It has spread through conquering other nations and converting the survivors. Islam states that the devil is just a joke, God is all powerfull, so whoever rules in the outerly world, is also favoured by God. (That's why Muslims can't stand being marginalized in world politics, etc.) Islam approves of violence to those who break the Faith.
Christ, on the other hand, said: I'm not of this world. Give to Ceaser (the Roman emporer) what is of Ceasar, and to God what is of God. Christ says... turn the other cheek. (It's often said that the Bible is just as violent as the Koran. That's not true. The New Testament, the specific christian part, is totally free of calls to violence.)
Or, to say it in a different way, the Rodney King quote above, and the people here who say "we are all children of God", are in fact stating the Christian view.... not the Muslim.
And if you conclude that American Christians do not always behave in that way, to say it mildly, then we just remember Christ's warning that his followers would do their own thing and leave him alone.
Apart from all this, Muslims are cool dudes :-)

Muslims also believe Jesus was a prophet, they just do not accept that he is the son of God. I have no problem with Muslim people. It is the extremist that think as Christians and Jews and infidels. and there lies one of the problems. and on the other side there are the christian fundamentalist, the spread religion through through judgement as opposed to love. Everyone believes they are right and the other group is wrong... That problem just comes when people decide it is not ok for the other group to believe what they want to believe... right or wrong. But as long as muslims have the fundamental belief that all non muslims are infadels... there will be a clash of christianity and islam... it is one of the reasons america is so despised by them... we support Jews and Jesus... and whatever else anyone chooses to believe... but mostly it's the Jews and Jesus that they have the problem with... essentially we have two groups fighting over the same God, and who they think he loves the most... Jews and Chistians or Muslims... but the Koran does as some heavy fuel to the fire... when it calls us infadels... and muslim extremist really don't help out the whole peace movement. so I don't think we will ever find a common ground... well not until the end of time at least!

The answer is in your question. Christians believe Jesus to be God, whilst Muslims believe Jesus to be a Prophet of God. There is a big fundamental difference between the two.
Either way I think both should along regardless. We are all humans at the end of the day and God created us all.

The reason why we can't get along is because every religion group wants their religion to be the most popular. Some can't just compromise with others. We all know that there is only one religion that is true. It's just that minor differences spread each of us. I am a Islam's follower, meaning I am a muslim, and of course i will say that Islam is a very good religion to follow. I am not only just saying that because I am a muslim, I have read and heard other "Holy Books" and nowhere i have found that what most of us do these days are even permitted. And what do you know over the years the books have been changed by people to suit their own style. This causes major conflicts within us all and disagreement leads to the seperation of all.

Because for Christians, Jesus PBUH was the last and only gift from God that matters. They pay no attention to any other prophet or gift from God who came before or after Christ because to do so would put a dent in their standing as good Christians. For example, the Buddha PBUH taught pretty much the same stuff as Christ but is ignored because to pay him attention would be to deny Christ. That is the mindset of many Christians, not the way it actually has to be and not necessarily the practice or belief of all Christians.

With all due respect, you must have only given one of both only a cursory read. See here: http://www.geocities.com/daniel1212av/JESUS.Vs.Muhammad.html
Muhammad could not read and likely got the Biblical stories from people who were Biblically illiterate, and thus usually garbled them, or contradicted them.
But he thought he was faithful and said to check him out with the people of the Book (Jews and Christians: Sura 5:48-52). When Islam realized the contradictions between the Bible – which as the prior source is the authority – and the Quran then they had to come up with the theory that the Bible was changed wherever it contradicts the Quran ( which is more often than it agrees with it).. However, that is a lie that can only be defended in a vacuum, as not only would that require not simply changes, but virtually a complete rewriting of the Bible. But we have thousands of extant Biblical manuscripts (partial or entire), many of which substantially predate the Quran, but not even one supports the Islamic allegations! And every one of them (that has the pertinent passages) declares that Christ was the son of God, who died for our sins and rose again (Is. 53; 1Pt. 2:24; 3:18). This same righteous Jesus rose from the dead as predicted (Ps. 16: 10, 11), and sits at the Father's right hand in Heaven as man's present Savior and future judge. So that those that truly repent and believe on Him are forgiven of all sins (Col. 2:13), being “justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses” (Act 13:39), and receive the life giving Spirit of Christ, and so follow Him.
All of this Islam flatly denies, as it presumes man may escape Hell and gain Heaven on the basis of his merits (which many include blowing others up), which is unholy blasphemous presumption, as God is holy and just, and apart from Christ and His blood and righteousness no one can be forgiven nor accepted into His Heaven. To God be the glory, who alone saves those who repent and believe, on His expense and righteousness!
May all turn to Him in faith and give God the glory He deserves by faith and surrender to Christ, who gave Himself for us!

Muslims can and are getting along with its neighbor all around the world. There are over 6 million Muslims in the US. Are they slaughtering anybody there? Those who attacked on 9/11 absolutely does not represent the entire 1.5 billion Muslims around the world. As soon as people remember that, we can all get along. Come and visit my country where it is 90% Muslim. Come see how our daily lives are. It's not much different than those who prefer to assume that we are slaughterers. We can get along fine with anybody, just don't assume we all are 9/11 terrorists.

Because islam contradicts God in many, many ways. For example, ever since islam was founded, it has expanded its territory by forcing people to "convert or die". Many people consider this the clearest proof of all (there are plenty of others) that allah is NOT God.
Jesus wasn't just a prophet; Jesus is God. He is alive yesterday, today, and forever. And He offers us life, too--abundant, joyous, eternal life with Him in Paradise.
Muhammad, on the other hand, is dead. Worms ate him centuries ago. What has he to offer anyone today but the dust of the grave?

Christians believe Jesus is the Messiah, the savior to all - not a prophet.
Christians believe Jesus wen't willing to die on a cross as the final sacrifice, broke open the gates of death giving us eternal life and lives today.
Muslims don't believe he went to the cross - so the rest wouldnt have happened either.

You must be reading a Bible. the Koran is very blank about anything Jesus teaches. Even though he is a prophet. It seems to leave out the Jesus is our Lord part in the same way. To say that the teachings of Christ are corruption is a definition of evil in itself. Jesus teaches for us to all get along, unconditionally. Mohammed teaches the opposite in some cases.
