i'm catholic and pro choice, and have been told by many people that i shouldn't call myself a catholic because i am pro choice... not like i'm gonna listen to anyone anyways... but this is my question mainly for the people who told me i'm going to hell for my views

don't you think there are SOME circumstances where an abortion would be alright?

like this:
say a woman gets pregnant and halfway through the pregancy and is told by her doctor that she will most likely die if she continued with the preganancy and the baby wouldn't be able to survive in an incubator if it was removed. she is basically told she must have an abortion.

this isn't something i made up, i've read about this happening... so what will it be? do you still believe that abortion is wrong in this case? either way the baby will die, but if the woman has an abortion she can still save her own life...

I had a question about abortion and a women gave me this information
The Bible shows that God does NOT consider human life to be precious. He kills OVER 2 million people, including babies, and that isn't counting fetuses or the number of men, women, children, and fetuses killed during the Flood or the Slaughter of the Firstborns, when we are not told how many people he killed.

The Bible clearly shows that God approves of abortion, and in many cases commands it:

The Bible approves of killing pregnant women: Genesis 38:24, Numbers 31:17

The Bible approves of abortion: 2 Kings 15:16

God approves of abortion: Hosea 13:15-16

People are not counted as persons until they are a month old: Numbers 3:15

The Bible contains directions on how to abort any pregnancy caused by adultery: Numbers 5:12-31

The Bible says that being aborted is better than living a bad life: Ecclesiastes 6:3-5, Matthew 26:24

The Bible says that a person becomes a living soul when he BREATHES the BREATH of life into his nostril (fetuses don't breathe): Genesis 2:7

Jesus (as a Jew), probably believed that "life" began at birth, as explained in the Old Testament. There is no biblical support for an "anti-choice" position. Have you read your bible?

Here's what your Bible actually says about abortion:

Abortion is not murder. A fetus is not considered a human life:

If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life. -- Exodus 21:22-23

The Bible places no value on fetuses or infants less than one month old:

And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver. -- Leviticus 27:6

Fetuses and infants less than one month old are not considered persons:

Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them. And Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD. -- Numbers 3:15-16

God sometimes approves of killing fetuses:

And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? ... Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. -- Numbers 31:15-17
(Some of the non-virgin women must have been pregnant. They would have been killed along with their unborn fetuses.)

Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. -- Hosea 9:14

Yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb. -- Hosea 9:16

Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up. -- Hosea 13:16

God sometimes kills newborn babies to punish their parents:

Because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. -- 2 Samuel 12:14

God sometimes causes abortions by cursing unfaithful wives:

The priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell. And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. ...
And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed. -- Numbers 5:21-21, 27-28

God's law sometimes requires the execution (by burning to death) of pregnant women:

Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. -- Genesis 38:24

I don't know how old your information is, but babies born at 18 weeks gestation have survived. Medical science is pushing the age of viability younger all the time.

Halfway is 20 weeks. A woman who is told she can't continue to be pregnant and HAS to abort should get a second opinion, because there are technologies -- and doctors -- who are able to save the baby.

So far, the ONLY situation in which an abortion must be done is a tubal pregnancy, and that usually ruptures 2-3 weeks into it, so it's much, much earlier than halfway. Also, the baby can't survive in the tube no matter what, so the baby really is doomed. The Church allows the removal of the baby in these situations -- and the baby is usually already dead by then.

In every other case, a C-section can be done to save the mother and give the baby a fighting chance.

Around 70% of all fertilised ova fail to implant on the wall of the uterus or are rejected soon afterwards mostly without the woman involved being aware of it. There is a huge redundancy in fertilised ova and the natural abortion rate is very high. By comparison, medical abortions are a drop in the ocean. If, as some believe, human life begins at fertilisation, there should be a huge funeral industry for tampons and sanitary pads because that is where all these millions of supposed humans end up.

As such an industry doesn't exist and no-one seems to bother about natural abortions, I presume that the religions are just being selective and dictatorial. And, more than likely, just plain ignorant.

Even if life begins at conception, the church has no problem with abortion to save the life of the mother. Pro-life advocates consider the life of the mother worth aborting to save, so if you are opposed to abortion except to save mom's life, then you are still considered pro-life.

Also, over the centuries the church has updated opinion on the beginning of life. Some popes designated it as the moment of "quickening", when the soul enters the body. Others designated it as the moment of conception, which is the current opinion.

One big difference between people on abortion is whether they value life (a functioning body) or mind (a thoughtful brain) more. Those who value mind tend to consider early term abortion ok, because there is not yet a sign of mind. But then, do these people also believe that there is nothing wrong with killing someone who is asleep? Those who value life tend to consider early term abortion not so ok, because embryology shows that life begins at conception. But then, do these people also believe that it is wrong to kill someone even if they are in severe long term mental misery with no known remedy?

So it is a complicated issue, no matter what your values are.

I think there are plenty of circumstances where abortion would be more.. "acceptable". I am pro-choice and I believe that no matter what, abortion should be an option. maybe the mother DID make a mistake, but if the mother is 15 or 16 and has the baby.. she won't be able to support it herself. sure, go on and say "well she should've thought of that before!!!" yeah, maybe so..but so what? that's like saying the baby is a punishment..something to teach her a lesson. and THAT is what's wrong, in my opinion.. having a child as a form of punishment.

You know, in the long run, it does not matter if people agree with what you think and believe, or not.
I don't much care for abortion, BUT, I am pro choice, in that I do NOT have the right to tell another woman what she can do with HER own body.
Her choice for an abortion, or if it is a necessary medical procedure, it doesn't matter. either, is legal.
The alternative to abortions a backstreet clinic, with dirty instruments, and unlicensed people performing the procedures. This is more are distasteful to me, that women be subjected to this, rather than a clean clinic, and a doctor.
There are children that are already alive, that we should be more concerned about, rather than worrying about tissue, and cells that have not developed yet.

In cases like that, I believe that that should be the only way. If the doctor tells you that the baby WILL NOT make it after being born and you WILL NOT live if you keep it, it should be done. I mean, that child will have nothing but suffering when he's born and he's gonna live a short life of pain. Even if he makes it and the mother doesn't, he still will have to grow up without a mother.

Taking a life for no reason is wrong, taking a life due to negative circumstance is quite a different story if you ask me.
So, I agree with you.
It's just that there are so many women who use abortion as a method of birth control and that's what makes it so contraversial.

As old as I am, there are times I myself am torn about this issue.... Sounds un-Christian, yes, I admit it...... but, I have witnessed the picture you paint, through a young friend of mine.... Her child was very deformed, because of spinal something, can not remember the long tech. term for it, and so she and husband made the VERY painful choice to enduce labor and have the child, she was about 3 1/2 months along, and the child was born dead...... In her case I am sure God might see it from the mothers point of veiw, or at least see the *flesh* fear in such an action..... and in the case of loosing your own life over the childs ?? *sigh*, the flesh part of me feels one way the spirit side another...... I think each case is seperate and should be looked at as such...... but, in the over all scheme of things, an abortion as birth control ? to me that is a big fat NO....... go in peace..... God bless

I am not Catholic.
I wholeheartedly approve of women's right to the choice.
If they are using it like birth control, it is a shame, because it is a surgical procedure.
I do nor believe that majority of women, are that misusing it.
I believe that they go through an agonizing process of getting informed and making an informed decision. It is a harrowing process and should not trivialized.
If men want to dictate to women, then men should get pregnant or shut up.

i think of we would desire to continuously supply a raffle for toddler to be born. Human and animals alike.. nature have a thank you to regulate them (fairly for animals). i've got not got a puppy atm, yet there are a team of stray cats in my complicated that help to regulate the rat inhabitants (and lizard, they each and every now and then devour them).
