I don't understand that about you.

Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer

I can't speak for all the other atheists, but for me it's because I like to prove that I can do things quicker and better than God because I am superior to him in every way (with the exception of popularity, God has always been more popular).

I really don't hate the people I help, I just don't think God is going to do anything to help. If he were, the situation wouldn't have happened in the first place.

The first reply hit the nail on the head. Praying has been proven to be about as helpful as doing nothing. I know that if i help physically something may be done. As far as why do I hate them enough to help them? Well shoot, i would probably try and help George Bush if he were injured in front of me. I hate George Bush. It is called empathy.

That is a more direct way. We help them, then it is assured that the person is safe. But we don't believe in god, so we don't pray because what would we be praying to? I think that even if you do believe in god, you should still go and help them. Don't rely on 'god' to fix your problems. If there was a god, he would give you chances to help, he wouldn't just fix things, then we wouldn't learn anything. But just in case you are wondering, I am atheist, that is just my guess.

Well while you are kneeling there idly muttering to yourself like a lunatic, we actually get the job of making the person better, done. Why, would you prefer we all just look up to sky and hope? Reality is not the movies.

Good luck to your friend I hope he gets well soon.

We're too busy making scientific and medical discoveries that can save them to waste time and energy praying.

I do BOTH.
Oops, I am a Christian. I guess that makes me a terrible person, huh?
Nah, you will say I only do it because I am scared of God (which is not true, but think as you wish).

You damn me if I do and damn me if I don't. I can't win with you.

I don't understand that about you. Why do you hate me so much?

It's because I want to assure that they live a long, meaningless, depressing life and do not want to call upon a higher power to help me with that, because then they will have reasons to have hope...

Yeah, I know...I'm a good person :)

while you pray for people who are ill, i do volunteer at red cross and i'm atheist. you think words towards a nonexistent thing are better than real relation or contact with those who need help?...

I'm a compulsive actor, I guess.

Positive action outweighs good thoughts any day.

Right, I see atheists traveling all over the world and back daily to help all the people I can pray for in a day. I pray for those I can't immediatly help, and help those I can
