A rational Christian once explained to me that while God may be called selfish or self-centered, this is acceptable since he is actually worthy of this praise. He literally and metaphorically is the center of the universe so it is not arrogance, but honesty.

No one knows why we really came to be, but I don't believe God expects to take all the glory in life. People who win the Nobel peace prize, Miss America, the Lottery are doin' some glory takin', don't ya think? When we do something good for others, we get to take the inner glory it gives us...not God. He just smiles.

God never asked for any of that. In fact, in several places in the Bible, he clearly states his distate for fancy displays of praise. He much prefers that people treat each other decently. However, many people find mindless praise and fauning worship much easier to do than the "will of God". So you see a lot of, "Praise the Lord," in the mouths of loyal but useless devotees.

He is not selfish. He is jealous. He is all-giving. He gave His only Son. He gave you a free will to choose whether or not to follow Him. When He blesses He expects nothing in return but appreciates a thank-you!
