Religion & Spirituality - 9 November 2007

Religion is nothing more than old school politics. Countries create laws to control how people act, religions create creeds to control how people think. In religion, you dont kill because you will go to Hell(or equivalent ), by law, you dont kill because you will go to jail. Either way, you dont do something because you fear the consequences. I do, but who else believes religion is only here to control how a certain group of idealists think, and to give simple answers to complicated questions?

Jesus had the same problem, but (2 Thessalonians 2:3-12) . . .Let no one seduce YOU in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction. 4 He is set in opposition and lifts himself up over everyone who is called “god” or an object of reverence, so that he sits down in the temple of The God, publicly showing himself to be a god. 5 Do YOU not remember that, while I was yet with YOU, I used to tell YOU these things? 6 And so now YOU know the thing that acts as a restraint, with a view to his being revealed in his own due time. 7

Salaam

First off--I AM MUSLIM, and I live in America.
I'm noticing that MANY Arabs in America are now mis-pronoucing their names, so that their names will sound "non-Arab" --and its getting ridiculous.

For example, I know an Arab man named Koran who tells everyone his name is "Karn".

I know that Arabs & Muslims are afraid to let white Americans know they are Muslim--but giving false pronunciations of your name seems a bit too much and seems fake. Is this because you are afraid of backlash? Whats up with this?

...Also, it amazes me that many Muslims will not even return the greetings of a Muslim woman who doesnt cover her hair--yet you'll go around pretending you are not Muslim by messing up your names.

Ok--Your thoughts??

To say that God created somthing he can not control is blaspheme. If God does not control time then who does? Also how can we control time if we can control when we live or die?

I'm not talking about comfort or contentment or even happiness in the conventional meaning. I mean alive and in tune with ourselves and the world.

Did God put something in us that needs to grow toward a more complete state of being to be fulfilled?

How many of our sins were "past sins" when Christ paid for them on the cross? Mine were all future sins at that point. If God can only save me from past sins then I guess everyone who sinned after approx 30 ad is bound for hell with no hope? Is this true?

An email circulated my workplace this morning... it was a joke (accompanied by pictures etc) about how atheists are silly... It was a story about an atheist being attacked by a bear and screamed "oh my god" and then God asked, what do you want, the atheist requested the bear be turned into a Christian... so the punch line is (surprise surprise) the bear thanks god for the meal he's about to have...

ANYWAYS

At the top of the email, it said "Perfect example of atheism being a mental disorder"

What if we sent a joke around about Christians, Jews, or Muslims, and at the top said "Perfect example of Christianity being a mental disorder"...

Somehow I don't think it would have been "OK" for that to happen... why is it that atheists can be kicked and beaten but everybody else is off limits?

...are not Christian and in no way are they trying to force their beliefs on others? Can you be respectful to them regardless of the differences? Would you expect or at least hope that these believers would be respectful to you?

Im so confused. I believe in God and I love him for giving me life and giving me my necesities but I just dont believe in most things the Bible says and I dont believe you need to go to church to prove your faith. I believe that you just need to be a good person and pray to him and love him. But everyone tells me I'm wrong, that Im going to burn in hell. One part of me tells me they are right and another tells me they are wrong. I dont know what to believe. My heart believes in what I believe but my head tells me to listen to the other people. I dont know what to do. Am I going to burn in hell for my beliefs??? Will God punish me?

The Rev Dr. Isaac Momoh has asked that I open up an ATM account so that I can withdraw funds that he will provide. (You can contact him at +229-9340-7932). I am not so sure that this is a good idea, even though I plan to spend the funds doing good works.

Should I flagrantly disobey him, tell him to GET LOST, or should I do as he says? Like I say, he is a man of the cloth!

But he went on to smear Christians opponents of homosexuality as “our local Taliban,” and he called presenting the biblical view of homosexuality “smug and nasty Leviticus-mongering hatred of homosexuals.”

Then why is there sin? If all comes from Him, and from his own image, why sin? Some say because He gives us a choice, but why give such a forbidden choice? We are from His own image, and look at us (mankind in general). What does that say about His image? If you are given the power of choice, and there is nothing of sin, then sin is something you can't chose. So explain to me, why sin? Whats the point? If he knows all, and what will happen, then there would be no reason to do it. If He gives a choice, and you chose wrong, then He will already have known before you do it, it seems more like a sick game than anything.

That was like six months ago. I kissed a few girls on the lips since then and NONE of thme have gotten pregnant. I took this as proof that I can't get anyone pregnant and I had sex with my girlfriend without a condom or birth control. I'm in the clear, right?

I have heard this from many sources and I have also heard that there are laws on the books in some states that won't allow atheists to run for office. I have known many atheists and none of them are bad people. Why is it that people seem to dislike atheists so much?

We saw this show on discovery channel a cple weeks ago about this kid who was using these two metal sticks and after he was done he almost got possesed. So my bf thinks that all this stuff is a big joke cause hes a biologist and he knows everything! Anyways he went on ebay and bought some. Then he started walking around his apt saying nonsense chants and making the poles touch. Well I have noticed over the past week that he is not him self. He has been looking really tired. I asked him what was wrong and he was like nothing just cant seem to sleep. He told me he keeps having these weird dreams. So I slept over at his place and I couldnt sleep either. I kept having dreams of this demon chasing me and my bf. The worst one was a dream of my bf sleeping and this demon standing over him. The demon turned around and saw me watching and just started to laugh. Im freaking out now! Is this just cowincdence that were having the same kind of dreams or should I be worried? Advice?

If you're a Christian, believe in the Bible, believe that Jesus Christ is your savior and the only way, then why are you making excuses for sin????
America is doomed. Peeeriod. This land will be destroyed. If you want to go to Heaven you have to follow God's commendments! You have to accept the Truth and live it. The truth is in the Bible and you will not be able to comprehend it until you do your research and grab a dictionary and go online and look at the history of things! You're not saved because you go to church every sunday and listen to a gay preacher or a woman preacher talking about prosperity and how God will make you rich.

You need to understand that we're in the Book of Revelation. What are you reading your horoscope for and watch the weatherman? God will come down and strike us in wrath! And he's coming alright!
