It seems like that's the first person they thank. I was just wondering why God is so focused on sports when there is so much more important stuff to worry about like war, disease,etc.

I always get a laugh when they thank Jesus, or God, or whatever fantasy creature they think of. There was a great SNL sketch years ago about a TV reporter interviewing the members of the losing team in their locker room, and how everything was the opposite of the typical winners' cliches. One of the players announced he was giving up on god and devoting his life to his new lord Satan.
