The fundamentalists call it 'feel good' preaching. Is it wrong?

A little? I think it's more than just "a little too much", but that's just me. It's a lot of gossiping and finger pointing about how all those "other" people are doing all the wrong things, while people within their church are "truly following the Lord". Out of all of the churches I have ever been in, not once have I witnessed them trying to make themselves better people. Instead they stroke each other's egos and try to appear to be "good people" (not saying they aren't all good... but they try to make themselves out to be more than what they are).

I don't think it's wrong to make other people feel good about themselves. It helps build confidence. But it shouldn't be sugar coated and it certainly shouldn't be at the expense of other people.

It is certainly one of the problems.
Another is abandonment of the scriptures, and believing them to be authoritative for all faith and practice.
But about what you were speaking of, yes, it is wrong.
It exalts man, and not God.
It ignores the true state of man.
It runs counter to humility, a contrite spirit, which is needful if anyone is to know the Lord.
Pride is easy to feed, and people love to be told how wonderful they are, and pride is what will keep a person from knowing God. God HATES a proud look.
Many "churches" today are putting out a "message" that raises man up to a level he really does not have.
There IS a reason we call Him LORD!!!

Absolutely it is wrong. True preaching should make you want to repent of your sins and do good to others not feel good about yourself.

I believe churches, like the Episcopals, use common sense in their religion. Bravo to them for being able to think. Bravo to them for turning away from hate and nonsense.

Too much stroking, not enough prostration. And what happened to good, old fashioned frottage?
