The above noted quote was one of the replies I got in another question related to God and religions...

Isn't it wonderful to have a one size fits all answer like this one where you can dismiss just about anything and everything?

I have been to tons of funerals... Always the same answers when the dead person died accidently or too early "It was God's wish" - "God has a reason" - "God has a plan for each and everyone of us", etc...

Look around at all the social and enviromental destruction, the madness, the killing, the loss of millions of innocent lives, etc... ALL PART OF GOD'S OVERALL PLAN!

Well, I cannot force people to believe or not believe, but I for one thinks God is nothing more than a legend that was cleverly or accidently invented to control the mass back when illeterate and ignorant people we common.

Yet, here we are year 2007 and the legends are still used to control the gullibles... and there's no shortage of them?

What do you think?

Yes yes I know "20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: "

But if that is to be taken as 'dont have pictures of saints or angles' then shouldnt it also say 'dont have pictures of any land animal or fish' - it says earth or water, not just heaven.

How does this not work both ways?

if god really wants us to worship him then why doesnt he show himself to us? or better yet why should we believe in him if it wasnt for the fear of going to hell? be honest.

if there was any proof then why would we need faith? and if it wasnt for the idea that we'd go to hell for not believing without proof or signs, then why would we have to believe?

I mean 9 out of 10 times, your knowledge and the way you can use it gets you further ahead in life than what you may believe. I could believe I'll get a good grade in a class but that doesnt mean I will, but if I study right and gain the knowledge and apply it then I could actually get a good grade.

So why would the belief that god exists be important to have if it wasnt for the idea we'd go to hell? And even this doesnt make any sense because that's just narcissistic and illogical. Which is torturing somebody for not believing something you never proved.

I know of some examples, such as the Crusades, the Witch Trials, and, more recently, the issues on the east coast regarding exploitation of alter servers. Are there any other examples of times when certian people within the Church have tarnished its image?
I see it as metaphorically related to a rock climber. The Church knows that it has to keep climbing towards excellence, but there's always the danger of falling, and of never knowing your exact way up. Anyone agree?
Finally, anyone understand what my parish bulletin means when it says the Church is "living its way into answers" ?

Jesus said in John 5:19 that the son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative. In John 14:28, Jesus said that the Father (Jehovah) greater than i am.

I remember reading in the Bible that people who don't praise Jesus or whatever will go to Hell, and they they will burn and rot forever. Is this really possible? And if so, how?
Also, I read that everybody in Hell will have worms. What's up with that?? Where did the worms come from?

hey, this question is for the Christians (obviously). I'm 18 and I really want to be closer to God. I'm saved, I go to church every sunday but i have an extremely short attention span so i never hear the sermon. i try to do devotionals in the evening. i suck at praying (well, i think so...). i can never think of anything to say to God. my sunday school teacher says to talk to God about everything and i do. but sometimes i feel like i'm holding back.
can someone please give me some advice on how to get closer to God? I dont feel as if I'm where i need to be with Him.
also, i've become very vain. is there a scripture in the Bible that says something about vanity?
thanks!

i would really appreciate it if those of you who are only going to tell me to give up and God doesnt exist to not answer this question. that is not the direction I'm trying to go in. but i guess i cant force you to not answer so whatever...

Just wondering, since you know.. the Bible says it's a sin to kill, yet we kill in the war everyday. I love how you guys found a way to justify that kind of . But you know what bothers me? When you guys say there's no way God will accept gays. God will accept the when benefits some people, but you know, when people turn out to be gay, OHDAMN STRAIGHT TO HELL. Nice logic there, buds. :)

Why would God, make a planet, make the people, kill them all but a few, say he will never do it again, and then have the book of revelation? Is he not strong enough to keep satan and his anti christ from rising up and destroying the world. Why does this all seem like a staged up war? Furthermore, why does he let satan influence us in our daily lives? If he is all powerful, why did he have to have a war in heaven with satan and his followers, who did not have free will, but some how chose to go against him. Just asking, for an all powerful entity, he seems like he has had a hard time keeping it all in order.
