When I told the people of Northern Ireland that I was an atheist, a woman in the audience stood up and said, "Yes, but is it the God of the Catholics or the God of the Protestants in whom you don't believe?" --Quentin Crisp

I am surrounded by priests who repeat incessantly that their kingdom is not of this world, and yet they lay their hands on everything they can get. –Napolean Bonaparte

You can safely assume that you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do. --Anne Lamott

Christians, needless to say, utterly detest one another; they slander each other constantly with the vilest forms of abuse, and cannot come to any sort of agreement in their teaching. Each sect brands its own, fills the head of its own with deceitful nonsense. --Celsus (178 AD)

The Church says the Earth is flat. But I know that it is round. For I have seen the shadow on the Moon. And I have more faith in a shadow than in the Church. --Magellan

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said 'Stop! don't do it!' 'Why shouldn't I?' he said. I said, 'Well, there's so much to live for!' He said, 'Like what?' I said, 'Well...are you religious or atheist?' He said, 'Religious.' I said, 'Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?' He said, 'Christian.' I said, 'Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?' He said, 'Protestant.' I said, 'Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?' He said, 'Baptist!' I said, 'Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist church of god or Baptist church of the lord?' He said, 'Baptist church of god!' I said, 'Me too! Are you original Baptist church of god, or are you reformed Baptist church of god?' He said, 'Reformed Baptist church of god!' I said, 'Me too! Are you reformed Baptist church of god, reformation of 1879, or reformed Baptist church of god, reformation of 1915?' He said, 'Reformed Baptist church of god, reformation of 1915!' I said, 'Die, heretic scum,' and pushed him off. --Emo Phillips

If you knew you were going to die in 1 week, what would you do for the last week of your life?

he not only expects you to go to church every sunday but he expects you to believe in him and he doesnt give you any signs at all whatsoever. he wants you to worship him and the thing is you have no way of knowing if he exists.

then to top it off, the bible which is supposed to be the word of god isnt supposed to be taken literally and we have to interpret it the right way. not to mention there's so many different versions of it.

and if you dont accept his son or you dont believe in him wholeheartedly he gets mad and sends you to hell when an omniponent god should know d@mn well that some people refuse to believe something without any proof or signals.

I have been working on a project related to end-times theology (post-tribulation, pre-wrath rapture) and have done a bit of study the past couple years on the so-called "prophecies of St. Malachy," a set of prophecies attributed to a 12th-century monk that lists characteristics of each pope from the time that Malachy received these prophecies until the end of time. From the time that Malachy received these prophecies until the end of the world, there would be 112 more popes, and then the end of the world will come, according to these prophecies. Benedict XVI is the 111th pope in this chronology. I'd like some information on the Catholic Church's theology on the end times and the second coming of Christ so I can try to tie together Malachy's prophecies--I'm not saying whether or not they have merit, just that they'll soon be the subject of a lot of discussion, IMO--with Biblical passages and prophecies pertaining to the end times.

I know this might not be the best place to get answers from actual JW's, but I'm hoping some of you will read this question. I'm so busy and stressed that I'm thinking about seeing a doctor for some type of medication. I go to school full time, I have a job, I go to the meetings three days a week, try to go in field service at least once a week and there's a sister studying with me 1 day a week. Not to mention I do have a home and husband. I've been a part of the organization my entire life, but I've never been this stressed out until recently after I got married and moved to another congregation. My old congregation wasnt this demanding. I feel like other people are constantly making plans and volunteering me to do things at times when I can't come because I work retail so I'm not off on weekends and then they seem to try to pressure me to squeeze it in anyway. I'm getting to where it's feeling so demanding that I really don't want to go at all. Any suggestions?

I've slept with a Rosary everynight for four months. It started out by me having really horrible nightmares, then when I slept with the Rosary they stopped (and hav yet to return). The catholic campus minister said he believes Mary is watching over me while I sleep, so I try to say the Rosary everynight (doesnt always workout that way). Im habbit forming and only use my blue one at night and its missing! I completly cleaned the room and its no where to be found.

It may sound stupid to some, but I really need it back and I'm not sure what to do or where else to look.

As a Christian and what you know about God and His blessings, don't you feel sorry for all the anti-Christian people on this site. These people always think so highly of themselves and some false belief not knowing that they will burn in Hell forever without Jesus Christ.

Honesty, dignity, respect, virtue, values, are these significant in a world where coping seems to be on the basis of right wrong, or good bad, where, bias, prejudice and injustice seem rife, whether from what appears a schizoid reaction, passive agression, or dellusion?

Perhaps, the old adage when we were kids, of "sticks and stones will hurt my bones, but words will never touch them?" Psychologically, in a loving, caring, compassionate world where all people have hurts, foibols, worries, fears, insecurities, neatly transcribed by neat groups organized as either "us, or them" as a mentality, has made defensiveness?

The issue whether attack or other wise, the polarisation of balance in extremism created to cope, is at best not continuing its purpose as ideal utopias collapse in the freeing up of ideas prescribed to allow accountability and responsibility to become stronger creating hope?

Has society's reactionary nature demanded our loyalty beyond our humanity, and if so, how?

Ok my fiance and his family are devout members of the church of christ. He told me of a situation that caused his church to split. Even his pastor left. A member got divorced from his wife, married another member, and supposedly this man was still allowed to pass out communion, lead in prayer, sing, etc.
Well everyone just had a fit that he was allowed to do this because it just wasnt right.
My argument is this, what makes these people feel like they have the right to pass judgement on this man for sinning, when everyday we sin?? Is this mans sin worse than other peoples sins? It is specific in the Bible not to judge other people and only God has the right to judge. Why is this teaching from Jesus being obviously overlooked by this new testament church? I want answers from other Church of christ goers.
Thanks

Do you ever think life may be depressing, and existence futile without the prescence of a higher entity? I am an agnostic, and it just seems so dull for existence to be based on aquiring material items.
