Why would you give it any sort of Bible to learn about culture? Did you mean, if they wanted to learn about Christianity? In that case, I'd give it a Catholic Bible, since Catholics wrote it in the first place. Might as well give it the original.

No. That would be horrible. If the alien wants to learn about our culture, he'd better be given a HELL of a lot more than a couple of bibles.

I think aliens would have enough trouble understanding us, without confusing them with all this unclear language, and all the different interpetations, they would have to go through. It problably would be better, for them to give us an understanding of their belief system, it might be a lot clearer and useful, you never know. Or they might find a spiritual leader somewhere, who can explain the Bible for them, so they don't have to read it.

If they want to learn about Earth's religions, i would give them information on all the major religions. This is because they want to find out about culture, not because they want to be converted to a specific religion, though you can't rule that out.

I'd give 'em the KJV but remind them it's just a collection of cool little stories.
And I'd give 'em Darwin, Marx and Aesop for balance.
