Here's the first clause of the first amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

Since not all citizens follow religions that believe in an interactive God, how is the obligatory recital of the pledge not a "law respecting an establishment of religion"?

Look into the origin of the phrase. It wasn't always in the pledge, and it has decidedly Christian origins, not some loose deistic meaning of "God".

If I'm way off base, please tell me why.

I'm trying to gather information on the different religions and why people believe in them. I know this subject can be touchy and im trying to be as blunt as possible to see what kinda answers i get. Also I want to know why people choose to follow a religion in general? Also If you are religious, does it bother you that people are constantly trying to prove things void within your religion and disprove what you've always known. Also How do you deal with people of other religions who obviously believe they have the superior establishment. If you'd like any of this clarified let me know and ill try to word it better...

Many years ago Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889-1929) said: "While sitting on the bank of a river one day, I picked up a solid round stone from the water and broke it open. It was perfectly dry in spite of the fact that it had been immersed in water for centuries. The same is true of many people in the Western world. For centuries they have been surrounded by Christianity; they live immersed in the waters of its benefits. And yet it has not penetrated their hearts; they do not love it. The fault is not in Christianity, but in men's hearts, which have been hardened by materialism and intellectualism."

Intellectualism (this does not mean being intellectual) can be and often is a defense against facing one's reality, and used as a means to rationalize the belief system we want and choose to believe. If we intellectualize or rationalize away God, then we can deceive ourselves into believing that we are ultimately only responsible to ourselves. In so doing we harden our hearts against truth and reality.

Materialism is often a symptom of buried emotions, especially the emotion of wonder. Instead of finding fulfillment in the wonder and beauty of creation and nature, we get wrapped up in things. As the saying goes, instead of loving people and using things we end up unhappily loving things and using people. Another way to harden our hearts and a dangerous way to live.

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please help me to be totally honest with myself and with you and learn how to enjoy the beauty of your creation and the simple things of life and therein protect my heart from becoming hardened. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus' name, amen."

Paul's letter was written around the year 58. The Gospels were written well after that. Paul never mentions Jesus having been resurrected in the flesh. He never mentions empty tombs, physical appearances, or the ascension of Jesus into heaven afterward (i.e. when Paul mentions the ascension, he never ties it to appearances in this way, and never distinguishes it from the resurrection event itself). Why wouldn't Paul write about this if it happened?

I see this mentioned often and normally by the Catholics when disparaging the protestant denominations. I am not attacking Catholic here though. In fact other than setting the question up they are not the focus. But even with all the denominations isn't there still one Lord, one faith, one baptism?

All Christians worship 1 Lord - Jesus
All Christians have 1 faith - faith in the work Jesus did for us. Faith in His sacrifice.
All Christians believe in the same baptism - baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Aren't these the most important things? Does denomination really matter? Are our differences really that important? A Catholic confesses to God through a priest. Protestants confess directly to God. We are still confessing and still confessing to God. Do the little details really matter? Isn't it more important that we are Christians regardless of denomination?

They were comparing San Diego residents and New Orleans residents staying in the stadium with cots etc and mentioned that these people are much more thankful in comparison to the Louisiana residents.........

The media made the whites look so helpful and thankful and the blacks as being ungrateful and undisciplined.
