The News Media in the U.S. has become a business rather than a simple conveyer of information as it should be.. By comparing New Orleans to San Diego the media opens the door for specials and lucritive deals down the road...
It's all about the money to be made an the sensationalism of the story not the bare bones truth it should be about... These days there are very few hardcore journalists instead we have a plethera of what I call "Whores of News" who sell out their journalistic integrity for 6 figures a year...

Of course the're more thankful they have better conditions. The people in New Orleans were probably pretty greatful when they first got there.Talk to the people in San Diego when they've been there for awhile. If they were locked in that stadium for days and packed in like the people in New Orleans were they would be bitching to.The fact is they weren't prepared for Katrina and the conditions were worse than most people can imagine. The conditions in San Deigo are much better. You just cant compare the two situations.

San Diego is a military town. Naturally, the response to a disaster would be quick. Also, after the Katrina catastrophe, many major cities implemented more disaster relief procedures.
I agree that the media is making the San Diego residents look more grateful but that may not be intentionally or for the reason that you think. They may want to prove that people may be evacuated safely and efficiently with increased preparedness.
When a largely populated town is forewarned of potential disaster and directed to the nearest evacuation centers, less chaos is expected to ensue. Also, San Diegans were allowed to take their pets with them to many of the evacuation centers.
Who would want to leave their pet in danger while they leave safely to Qualcomm Stadium? Not many, but If they were forced to, there would be many anxious and worried people sitting there tainting the atmosphere with their emotions. Remember, that many people think of their pets as family members (Look how many people in New Orleans died because they wouldn't evacuate without their pets). That kind of turmoil is bound to cause some tension in a large crowd.
Many missteps were taken in response to the Katrina disaster, I agree. I know that most likely high priority was not given to those most affected. Those living in the 8th Ward, for example, suffered the most. Many retirees whose homes were paid for, yet didn't insure them because maybe they lived on social security. By contrast, most of the areas affected by the California fires are well off compared to the rest of the nation and a good majority of those homes are insured. Even if the residents aren't well off, they are bound by their mortgages to pay for insurance. What many of the Californians suffer will be inconvenient, yet temporary, whereas more in New Orleans will suffer the repurcussions harder and longer. That is also the reason why San Diegans are more relaxed about it. They have insurance.
The whole Katrina fiasco messed up FEMA's reputation probably more than they expected because they underestimated the potential devastion and the voices of those affected by it.
Hopefully, in the future, this will be a lesson for those in charge of handling these disasters that all the people and their loved ones must be saved regardless of how rich or poor, or young or old they are.

Well as far as blacks with jobs, San Diego has more employed then New Orleans, yet both cities have around the same amount of unemployed whites. If you ask me it comes down to job opportunity.

It has to do with bitchieness and the fact that san diego residents are the current story. Not everything is white and black, goofass. Just forget that bullsh it. The only way to be equal is to not see race. Not point out our differences just not see them. If we are all people then it doesn't matter....

well, it might be a bit of truth but it did not cover the reasons---The California people could put up with a little discomfort because for the most part they are pretty well to do and have only been "upset" for a short period of time whereas the New Orleans people have been poor for a long long time before the hurricane even showed up and prolly just did not have one ounce of patience left.

I think it has to do with the aspect that FEMA has stated publically that they will not respond in the same way that they did in New Orleans. (or rather did not respond)
I am guessing this is a case where you heard half the story and switched it back to Cartoon Network.

It's probably the truth, but I'm sure it has much more to do with their social background than their race...those from San Diego are typically more wealthy, cultured people, while those who were displaced in New Orleans were at the bottom of the social rung. Black or white, I'd rather be with the middle class people of San Diego than the lower class people of New Orleans. Of course those from New Orleans are going to be more unruly.

well, let's see some of the poor black families were forced apart at gun point and sent to other states ,forced to stay in the Astrodome with no running water, food or electricity with corpses, there were rotting corpses all over the streets unburied, and some were criminalized as looters for stealing baby formula to help others. so the black people had more opportunity to appear unhappy, ungrateful, or whatever label you choose, as their situation was more dire and they were treated like subhumans in some instances.
