Both, there are alot of different definitions of religion, let's define both by the Bible being its own divine commentary:

Acts 11:26 - And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Christian is: a follower of Christ.

Religion is defined as:

James 1:27 - Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

The relationship is the personal part; religion (true religion) is benevolence to others in the time of need.

Let me explain how christian fundies dare to think of their (and mine) religion as a relationship:
1)They are copletely sure that their beliefs are right
2)Therefore they differentiante them from other beliefs, which are just as good as their
3)So they call their religion a relationship with the real god, and all others "religions"

It really comes down to ignorance. Religion is defined as having a set of rules and a higher power. Since Christianity has a higher power and a set of rules it is a religion. So anyone who argues it is not is ignorant.

Depends on the christian. By definition anything can be religious. I religiously go to work. I religiously take a bath daily. One cannot view a relationship with Jesus as religious. There is no comparison between the relationship I have with Jesus and the mundane activities that I perform religiously.

It is totally a relationship!! Religion is for practices, and traditions, and such. Jesus just wants us to have a relationship with him! To talk to Him daily! To read His word, to commune with Him! So many people try to make being a Christian so complicated. Christian means Christ-like. We are striving to be like Christ but we never will be on this earth! The point is we strive to be! I can't imagine not having a relationship with my Lord! I talk to Him about everything and He talks to me and I love Him! Thank you Lord that you saved me and for your love!! God bless everyone!
