It technically talks about saving a life.
"if you save your life you will loose it--if you loose your life your me you will save it"
but they life being referred to is an everlasting life, or a life that only your soul will have.

Yes, we are told this life is as a vapor and fades away or like a flower that blooms today and tomorrow is gone. The soul is the part of us that lives forever. This life is not THE LIFE, but the life to come. The soul is timeless. We endure a few problems on this earth so we can live in eternity free and painlessly happy.
This life is not the thing to save, but the permanent part of us, the soul.

As the poster above mentions, "soul" is a synonym for "life." But it does not emphasize winning converts over other acts of doing good.

So does the Q'uran. Which is one reason why those zealots flew those airliners into the WTC.
Your question is rhetorical. It is it's own answer. So why bother asking it? The Talmud says, "He who saves a life, saves the world entire." There is nothing wrong with saving lives.

So then from that point of view, you or any Christian shouldn't try and save a life of a person who has cancer (and lets say that in your choice, either A.) he/she dies because of no cure, but you "save their soul" by converting them or B.) he/she lives because they found a cure or they beat it, and the person remained how he/she is.) Now, let's say you pick A.) and you convert them, therefore "saving their soul" but they died, even though if you choose B.) they would live, but still would be the same faith (or lack thereof) as before. Which would you choose to do? Save his/her soul, even IF you may not be right, or let that persons faith be and let him/her live? Hypothetical of course, but still, please answer.

It emphasizes first of all, saving your own soul.... and sure it wants you to put eternity before the temporal.

Perhaps in saving a life, you are then saving a soul. What you do with your life is a testament to your faith in Jesus and obedience to God.

God is ruler over life and death. He can save our souls here and after. This life is not all there is.

Seems like more souls were extinguished than saved in the bible.
