What made you turn to the religion you have so much faith in?

I will be open minded, and I want to state my piece.

I believe that humans go through hard times, in such times one may turn to "God". Believing that if he has this faith, he will make it through all his hardships. What I see is.... people being asked to put blind confidence into and once something successful happens in one's life, they give the religion all the credit. I believe humans themselves, have the ability to make it through obstacles themselves, it just takes a clear way of thinking through problems. We can be quite emotional in our problems, have stress, but at the end we get through problems because we finally see a certain way. It is not "magic" or the will of someone else. It is in "YOU", no one else.

Once again, I just want to hear what you have to say, regardless of what religion you believe.

I am reading a book called "Satan's Devices" by Kurt Koch, which discusses and refutes all kinds of occult and questionable (according to the Christian faith) practices, things like fortune telling, ouija boards, scientology, etc. In this book there is a section concerning speaking in tongues; he is generally against the practice. Some of the things he says are "the tongues and the charismatic movements are the most dangerous weapons Satan uses against the Christian camp," and "it sometimes happens that demons claim to be the Holy Spirit or Jesus...In this way they sometimes lead whole groups of Christians astray. This is the most devilish misuse of the Word of God that Satan allows himself." So basically, the author says that some cases of speaking in tongues is actually demons entering the Christian and posing as the Holy Spirit, and he gives a number of examples of this. I'm on the fence about tongues in general, and this just confuses me. Has anyone else ever heard this?

Are you an atheist with a religious spouse and vice versa? If so how does this affect your relationship?

A. An atheist who lives his life with the certainty that there isn't a God peering into his life judging him, and subsequently lives his life as himself. Perhaps sinning on the way, but more or less just doing what he does, without any thought that there will be accountability for it.

B. A Christian who believes in hell, believes that it exists for certain, tells others they will go to hell for not believing in what they believe... and still sins all the time, constantly praying to be forgiven for the same sins over and over and over. With a firm belief that they can sin, and as long as they feel bad about it, they will be forgiven by asking God.

Note: The atheist doesn't believe it exists, and the Christian does with all of their heart. So who has the better excuse in reality. And this idea in itself I do not pose as an excuse for atheists... because all atheists know that we don't need an excuse (all part of not believing in the first place).

What do you have to say?

How many of you knew that L. Ron Hubbard was the creator of the original TV show Battle Star Galactica?

I heard this tonight on the radio and I was surprised. I loved the show when it was on TV and I never made the connection before.

Has anyone else noticed the similarities between the power structure of humans in the show and the real life power structure of the LDS Church?

How much of the shows ideas are shared by Scientologist?

Seems like everywhere you go, you find renown religious leaders all marching to the drum of the masons and illuminati, teaching people to embrace the nwo and a one world religion. Pick a leader and you'll most likely find they are deeply entrenched with this belief.

i.e.

"I am not worthy."
"I DESERVE to go to hell, I really do (hell being an eternal fire or something eternally horrific)."
"I am a sinner."
"Please God, forgive me for all my horrible sins (I am a terrible person)."
"God will save me from myself."
"I would be nothing without God, my life would be meaningless."
"Life would be pointless if God didn't exist."
"Everything I do is wrong, why can't I be more like Jesus."

You get the point.

The gospel in the Bible is very positive, speaking of our love for our neighbours i.e. those we find ourselves amongst. If we try and trust in God we are told he will love us. The promise of the gospel is forgiveness and a place in God's kingdom on earth. The last chapter of the last book of the Bible says: '...behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.' I would be interested in the thoughts of others on this.

Jews:

On account of other religions they believe, Jews made a couple of mistakes, (like the Jesus/Zackariah sagas etc)

Christians:

Christians take it the next level & have their god killed & maimed, then to transform into different things. Thats downright blasphemy.

Even Christianity says those that commit blasphemy & worship more than 1 god go hell. (again by saying your god, is 3 for the price of 1, does not exist in Judiasm, the religion Christianity originated from)

So which one?

According to the Holy Torah the commandment that says, "commit not murder" also applies to one's self. But, can suicide be justified in certain circumstances? I think it can, whether I say it correctly is a different story, so let me try, Okay.

You must not kill yourself if it serves no purpose. Meaning: if it doesn't glorify HaShem or help your fellow man. What do I mean? Well, Jesus died for others and he deliberately said what he said to get the result that he wanted, right? Yes! Samson, the great judge of Israel did the same thing. Seeing that he did not have his eyes anymore he desired judgment on the wicked through self destruction. Thus, to a point, that is suicide. Suicide bombers on the other hand don't really change or do anything, nor serve any true purpose, because life goes on as before, thus this act is not allowed, but he that forfeits his life to save others or to help others is OK and also praise worthy. Depression based suicide, however, will land you in hell. THKS

It seems no matter how advanced we become there are still people who believe in illogical concepts. I mean, miracles, prophecies, visions, auras, saviors, virgin births, immaculate conceptions, resurrections, bodily ascensions, faith-healings, exorcisms, salvation, redemption, messages from the dead, voices from Atlantis, omens, magic, clairvoyance, spirit-signals, divine visitations, incarnations, reincarnations, second comings, judgment days, astrology horoscopes…the list is endless and all are completely without evidence just like Christian beliefs.

Will there ever be a time when we become so technologically advanced, so grounded in logic and reason that we will believe in only that which can be seen, heard, felt, tasted or touched?

There is a clear diffrience, the truth is there is no absolute god in hinduism,, but why ppl say God and goddess, when they are ppl who have lived before ? Hinduism is more of natural law codes compressed into symbolism, look at the many hands of the so called god or goddesses, its all symbolism,

Beleive in God only takes the god within you and put it outside, and man without God within him is nothing,

God what is God ? Knowledge

Knowledge for what ? for living

thats about it all

its in everyone of us, why take it out and put names for it ? and worse fight because of it ?

Hinduism never preaches anyone anything, its us that looks for it, then why should a hindu call himself a hindu ? arent we human beings ? every one of us ? even the VEDA tells us that
