by this reasoning...a whole lot of firemen who went into the Towers in September were committing suicide?
No...
For there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for another.
Suicide? I think not.

Jesus' death was not a suicide, but a sacrifice. By your logics, that would mean that every soldier who died storming the beach of Normandy (where they expect a 50% casuality rate) was a suicide. Every fireman who dies rescuing a child from a burning building is suicide. Or every Secret Service agent who jumps in front of the President to protect him is a suicide. There is a huge difference between a suicide (which is normally done out of dispair or any attempt to get pity or attention) and an act of heroic sacrifice to save others.

Jesus sacrificied is life for yours and mine, there is a difference. Only perfect blood being shed could cover sins, Hebrews chapter 9 talks about the sheding of blood and without it there is no remission for sins, John 15:13, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. When Abraham was about to offer up his son Isaac was it suicide, no, it was a sacrifice in obediance to the commmand of God. Genesis 22. Now we have John 3:16, For God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever should believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus said I have the power to lay my life down and to pick it back up. Praise the Lord he chose to lay it down for our sakes. He washed away our sin. Remember when he said, it is finished, and he gave up the Ghost, or His Spirit, and there was a great earthquake, and the veil in the temple was torn in twain from top to bottom. He forever open the door to the Holy of Hollies once and for all for everybody. It is said that in Jewish tradition and history that the whole temple itself was cracked right down the middle, a new covenant had been born, now we get saved by grace thru faith in Jesus Christ. Eph.2:8&9, no more daily sacrifices, Jesus was a perfect one, and now thru him we can have the Holy Spirit in our hearts all the time. Remember the day of Pentecost, Acts chaptet 1, the Holy Spirit rained down from Heaven like a mighty rushing wind. Have you ever been saved, born again, accepted the free gift, if not just say this simple sinners prayer, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

Jesus did not commit suicide by cop.
A suicide by cop forces the state to act with lethal force as an action of self-defense. Since Jesus did not himself engage in lethal force that would compell a self-defense action by the state or its representative in the situation, he therefore did not commit suicide by cop.
Funny take on it though.

I call it obedience to the will of His Father in heaven.
Of course Jesus knew that He is going to die. He even told His disciples about it.
He was sent to suffer and die as a 'sacrificial lamb', once and for all, to redeem mankind from the bondage of sin. So that men by believing, will no longer perish in hell but will have eternal life in heaven.
But, the good news is that He did not remain in the grave. He rose again the third day and is now with His Father in heaven to prepare a place for us there, so that, where He is now there we will be also.
Please, read your Bible.

Does a person who throws themself into the path of an oncominging car, in order to save another, even though they are aware of the great sacrifice being made, commit suicide? No, that is heroic; it is the sacrifice of the self for the well being and life of another. As is the sacrifice Jesus made for all of us in this world.

Come on he didn't put the thorny crown on his head and nail himself to the cross, others did. I'm not an expert but jesus knew he was going to die and could do nothing to stop it so it was martyrdom for him.If he had done it to himself then yes it would be considered suicide. For the others I think it would be manslaughter or possibly murder one.

Technically it wasn't. He didn't kill himself. Others killed him.
Ac 2:23 This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross
Lu 9:22 And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."
However his mission might be classified as a "suicide mission" like those who give their lives to save others.

You can classify it anyway you like .It won't change the reason in the first place.Everything that happened to Jesus during His Crucifixion was prophesied by the words of Scripture, and he fulfilled them perfectly.

That's not how we think of people who take up a cause and are killed.
Jesus knew that His death would give life to many just as a seed which is buried in the ground bears much fruit.
He knew that He would rise up too.
