The Bible says in James 1:27, "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."
I personally have never seen ANY organization that follows what the Bible deems "pure religion".

How does the JW religion follow this biblical guideline?
Are you ministering to the needs of the widows and fatherless?

I've heard many JWs refer to people who adopt christianity through helping organizations as "rice christians". That they are only following the teachings because they were given food or some other form of help.

Visiting the fatherless and widow in their afflictions doesn't mean stopping by to indoctrinate--it means providing for the PHYSICAL NEEDS of the person. Their "affliction" is that they are now improverished. They need food and clothing. They need people invested in their lives in a real physical way--not just committed to study a magazine with them.

From what I gather from my wife and other Catholics is when they pray they pray to saints.. Kinda like calling a servicedesk and pushing the correct number associated with what you need.. so number 3 may be helping a sick family member while 7 would be , help with a job.
so my question is--- is there any other Christian or other religion that prays to a saint that takes the message to god? And.. why not pray to the man himself?

i was watching this bbc documentary on the ongoing "debate" between evolution and intelligent design. part of the documentary discussed the issue of why it's so difficult (mathematically, nearly impossible) to recreate life. consider the following example. take a deck of 52 poker cards. shuffle the deck and lay them out one at a time from the top of the deck to bottom in a straight line face up. note the order of the cards. then, repeat the entire process until you come up with the exact same order. assume, the original order of the cards represents the factors that had to go in to creating life. while it is true, that you could spend your entire life trying to recreate the conditions, and still never achieve the original order of the deck of cards, it does not change the fact that the original order did occur. does it?

I was raised Traditional Catholic and this was one thing they preached that I always had a problem with. How is it a babies' fault that he wasn't baptised before he died?

As far as Limbo being an actualy place goes, the explanation I was given was that there had to be a place for all the "Saints" of the Old testament (Moses, King David, etc.) to wait until Jesus died on the cross to open the gates of heaven.

So is it all B.S. or what?

Have you noticed the president of Iran deferred to God and God's plan sveral times in all of his interviews.

He talks about God a lot!

Lee Bollinger, undermined his own case for freedom of speech in his insulting introduction in which he described the university's guest as exhibiting "all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator" and expressed the hope that Mr Ahmadinejad would not remain in office.

Iran is within its rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes,

UN inspectors have not proved any deviation of Iran's programme towards military research,

He argued that Iran needs to be self-reliant in producing its own nuclear fuel for energy because it had been let down by several western suppliers since the days of the Shah.

He also pointed out that the UN inspectors have certified that Iran has not enriched uranium beyond the level of five per cent, which is the grade required to power a civilian reactor.

Human history shows that violence begets violence and hate begets hate. Common sense says if you’re fighting a fire you use a water hose, not a flame thrower.

I see people insulting others on here quite a bit, and many otherwise intelligent and respectable people seem to think it's justifiable if they weren't the one to start the petty name-calling.

I understand how it feels to reach a breaking point and lash out. I've been guilty of this more than once. But do you think it's right to try and justify acting just as silly and hateful as the one who is attacking you simply because they started it?

It's that type of playground logic that seems to dictate R&S on days like this.

The world is full of false prophets. Psychics. Channelers. People who follow their "spirit guides." They've been around since the beginning. They'll be around until the end. What you and I have to do is to have enough discernment to distinguish the true prophets from the false ones. So if the person you're listening to predicts the future, and is right, but is leading you away from the Jesus of the Bible - the REAL Jesus - then that person is not a prophet. You should stop listening. If the person you're listening to predicts the future and is ever wrong, then that person is not a prophet. You should stop listening. And if anything the person says is in conflict with one word of God's Word, close your ears to anything that person has to say.
