so i offered up the challenge to prove the intelligent design "theory" using the scientific method? my first two responses stated something to the effect of evolution being a lie and nothing more. thanks for the input... i received several more stabs at evolution. i did get one response which attempted, but nothing really compelling or convincing as far as evidence is concerned. so my question is this. shouldn't the advocates of intelligent design be working harder to legitimize this "theory" doing the necessary fieldwork, rather than sending half-@$$ claims to school boards. the reason why evolution is so widely accepted as being scientific fact is not because some kook came up with a hypothesis that man came from monkeys. to make that claim would deny the years and years of scientific research which went in to support the actual hypotheses of evolution. so how about it? are you willing to put in the work to support your claims?

I have recently realized that taking responsibility for my own actions is something that has not been an ongoing part of my life. Recently I was lied to about a product, a problem occured, and I'm ready to sue the person who sold it to me.
Well, they were wrong to lie. I was wrong in not getting it in writing and carefully checking things out.
Then on the way to the doctor's office I got behind a little old lady doing 25 in a 55 mph zone. I'm livid! And the doctor wants to treat me for high blood pressure.
It only takes me 10 minutes to get to my doctor's office, so I leave in time to get there under normal circumstances. Just assuming that nothing would happen to slow me down.
But that's a false assumption isn't it? Anything can and usually does happen, so now I must add extra time for the unseeable things ahead of me.
I think by taking responsibility for the things I can control (being careful, giving myself extra time) I will live a better, healthier life. And you?

Time for some serious Bible study!

The other day I heard my (unsaved) dad ask a client on the phone (sort of rhetorically) if Jesus raised Himself or God raised Him. The client apparently answered that God did, and Dad was pleased with that answer.

I get the feeling he's going to put this question to me next, as he sometimes does (either to educate himself or to stump me). I've been Googling around and reading some Bible studies on the subject, but I'm still confused. I've never quite mastered the concept of the Trinity, which is why I'm having so much trouble with this question.

Even if you don't know which it was, can you tell me why the matter would be important? I get the feeling it's a profound question, but I'm not sure why it is.

Also, if you know of a good resource on the definition of the Trinity, could you link me to it?

Thanks for all your help, everyone!

The Catholic church does not want any cases brought to trial, so they always try to settle. Will the lawyers figure this out and keep demanding higher and higher settlements? When will it ever end? It's becoming an industry like suing the tobacco companies once was.

God is Love not Hatred
Believe in God, that's all God requires of You.
Why is that so hard for people to understand?

When I was little I used to think it was only the JWs that went door to door. I remember my mom getting angry when I accepted a watchtower when I was like 7 or 8. She said that JWs work on a point system or something.

Anyways, ever since I moved to the town I currently live in I've had JWs, Mormons, New Tribes and Baptist at my door. Have the other demoninations just recently started the door to door campaign or have I not been paying attention?

Side questions: If you DO go door to door, what have your experiences been like?

If there is a Hell, Why do ungodly people die without any terror of it, such as screaming "pull me out of here!". If you want, Google S.B. Shaw's book. Real life deaths seem to contradict it.

Christ died for our sins and killed no one

Muhammed laid seige to Mecca, rounded everyone up and gave them a choice, become Muslim or have your head chopped off by the sword

one of these is quite clearly a message of peace

and the other one is a tactic designed at obtaining peace through fear

muslims please feel free to discuss my errors if any

but as it stands, if i had to pick a peaceful religion based on the two above

guess which one i would pick?

I have a son of six, and yesterday he came home with homework of a religious background.

Now I'm too not bothered about my child being told about these storys in his education, but today i wen't into school to discuss this with them and what i find out was disgusting, they get the children to sing songs of a religious nature, whole wide world in my hands etc, they are also taught that these storys are true and real life events, I'm not a religious person and i do not want my child to be exposed to fairy tales storys and lead to believe that they did happen, was i wrong to go in to the school and express to them that i do not want my child educated in this manner and that it was for the church do to not a school, and if it continue's that i will be taking my child out of main stream education, this teacher told me i was wrong and would be depriving my child of the truth and education.

I'm wrong?

A few Saturdays’ ago, a Christian visited my house from a local church. She said hi and wanted to know if she could pray with us 'during this difficult time'. She did not say what the 'difficult time' was.
I said okay, that I would, if she would read a pamphlet on atheism and evolution. She refused!!!!!! Can you believe that? SHE interrupted MY day to push her beliefs on ME, but then would not reciprocate and read a simple pamphlet? (I didn't really have any pamphlets, but she didn't know that).

Is this a great definition of a hypocrite?

Why would you come to my door and expect ME to be subjected to YOUR belief, but not the other way around?

If I, having only a limited knowledge of the human brain (not having designed it) wanted to teach someone something, here's what I would do:
-Have one and only one copy of the rulebook. (destroy all false copies.)
-Make the rules and their consequences crystal clear. (not vague stories)
-Update the roolbook regularly.
-Make rewards and punishments clear and consistent so that no one could possibly confuse them for random acts.
-Make rewards and punishments increase gradually with the behavior, rather than saving them up for a big reward/punishment at the end.
-If there is a date when it is too late to correct behavior, I would make that date specifically clear so that students could clean up their act in time.
-I would be present so that the students know I care about their performance.

Every teacher and manager knows that this is how humans learn and change their behavior. If God created us, why doesn't he get it?
