According to the Holy Torah the commandment that says, "commit not murder" also applies to one's self. But, can suicide be justified in certain circumstances? I think it can, whether I say it correctly is a different story, so let me try, Okay.

You must not kill yourself if it serves no purpose. Meaning: if it doesn't glorify HaShem or help your fellow man. What do I mean? Well, Jesus died for others and he deliberately said what he said to get the result that he wanted, right? Yes! Samson, the great judge of Israel did the same thing. Seeing that he did not have his eyes anymore he desired judgment on the wicked through self destruction. Thus, to a point, that is suicide. Suicide bombers on the other hand don't really change or do anything, nor serve any true purpose, because life goes on as before, thus this act is not allowed, but he that forfeits his life to save others or to help others is OK and also praise worthy. Depression based suicide, however, will land you in hell. THKS

We are responsible to preserve our own life for God's honor and our salvation. We are stewards, not owners, and life is not ours to dispose of.

Suicide contradicts the human tendency to preserve life. It is gravely contrary to a love of self, a love of neighbor (because it breaks ties of family and friends), and love for God.

If suicide is committed to set an example (especially to the young) the act assumes the gravity of scandal. No one can voluntarily cooperate in another's suicide. Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, grave fear of hardship, suffering or torture can diminish responsibility.

Because God can always provide an opportunity for repentance, we should not despair of the salvation of the person. The Church prays for those who have committed suicide.

That is a good question. Only God and the suicidal person who commits suicide knows really. I think there are exception, like mental illness play a factor. It is not for us to judge. All we can do is pray that they go to heaven.

Well, the firefighters of 9-11 sacrificed themselves to save many people. In fact, this quality of love goes on all the time. Does it not say, "no greater love is this: to lay down one's life for others."

A comment to "jesussaves:" Your reading comprehension has run amuke. His "I think" is not a matter of debate, nor of "I don't know," But of certainty. You can see that by what he says.

Why do you insult? For mockers are not saved.

Jesus did die for others ,but he did not die by his own hand. He simply stood strongly for his beliefs and knew his purpose for life. I do not think in any circumstance that suicide is just if life is taken by own hand.

suicide is nothing less than plain stupid. the problems remain unresolved so why not just resolve them, even if you have to give up your pride?
but then again, why suffer when you don't need to?
you have free will. it becomes a matter of what you decide, not what someone else says you should or shouldn't do.

Just like most religious people you started by saying "I think" You (religious but lost people) always forget God. Use your feeble mind (Gods is much greater making ours feeble in comparison) to examine what you perceive as true and then pass judgment making the grand statement....... I think...or...I believe. Trying looking at the world saying......the bible teaches.....or....God says. Then you will get it right.
