So you are lying when you tell your child or anyone else they will not see someone they know again in death. I understand the ones that say-I really don't know.
Since science has not without a doubt concluded what happens to a individual upon death and none of you are dead then it is a bold face lie to tell someone *No you will not see so and so again, but you have memories. Plus if they asked you *how do you know*? you would not be able to say without a doubt the answer.

Honesty comes from the ones who actually said *I don't know*
So unless you have a truth many don't know about you are lying.

I mean, you don't NOT believe - so why would you ever come here asking about atheism? What possible justification can you have for discussing something outside your interests or experiences?

Just wondering.. Do you have to be threatened to do the right thing? I'm referring mostly to Christianity. Why does it take the threat of severe and eternal punishment to get you to be nice?

It seems to me from her last few questions that she is trying to suggest that god's best use is as a crutch and nothing more.

There is no punch line, this is the question.

AND why do people get teased if they believe in ghosts but not so much if they believe in souls?

Pretty much all my friends are Christians. they know I'm an atheist, but sometimes they do talk about Christianity because I don't really mind as long as they don't tell me I'm going to hell / try to convert me. Anyways, when they do talk about Chrstianity sometimes I do join the conversation and, in a sense, suspend my disbelief and talk about Jesus as if he was real, and will sometimes talk about the bible. Now today we were talking about Christianity and person was like "I thought you were atheist.... why in the world are you talking about Jesus?"

So, apparently, because I'm an atheist I'm denied the right to talk about him? What are your opinions?

(I personally compare it to talking about Harry Potter. even though I don't believe he's real, or his world is real, I can still talk about his magic, right?)

why do people fear death? do you? would having your soul/mind/consciousness destroyed or being forced to exist eternally (anywhere) be worse?

why do people fear the utter destruction of themselves? isn't death really the opposite of everything we understand to be life, and is it not a wonderful thing to be released from existence entirely after having lived a full life?

Saturday night we are starting off the year with a sleepover at church (yes, I typed that correctly, lol, it's a common thing), and will be having fun, etc..but also discussing ideas for this year.

I have a few ideas of my own, but would like some outside input as well. Any ideas as far as how to grow in faith and deepen relationships with God?

Thanks! :)

Let's say that I spent my life parallel to the bible without worshiping Jesus. Why can't I get into heaven then? Does that make Jesus a tyrant? I have to obey him and do what he says or I can't go in? Just wondering.

What are you....Pro Life or Pro Choice?
Do you think abortion is Murder?

I'm definatly pro choice. I cant abide people who call abortion murder. In this day and age, a Woman has the right to chose whether or not life comes from within her. If the pregnancy is the result of a rape, then yes, go for it, have your abortion. Those people that stand outside abortion clinics preaching that abortion is Murder, has obviously never dealt with the emotions involved in having this proceadure.

When I look at the sky and read about the vastness of space, and ponder the idea that it might truley be endless or large beyond our comprehension. I happen to believe that out there somewhere are other living intelligent beings. Some smarter then us some not. It just seems probable and certainly possible. But if there are, will they be Christians ? Will they have the same creation story we have here. Will they believe in the same God? Will they be right? Or will we be right? Of course I guess you can say we are the only intelligent life, but even in this world we live we can't even come close to agreeing to one religion. Yet all claim to be correct. And please spare us all the" The truth is the truth" answers.

I just read an answer that stated that with all of the illegal immigrants in this country, the percentage of people in the USA who are Catholic is increasing .

Is the anti-Catholic sentiment in the United States related to the anti-illegal immigrant sentiment also present? Is this the same thing that we saw when there was a wave of Irish immigrants in the past?

Do you believe that:
1: humans developed over millions of years under a process guided by God
2: God created humans alone within the last 10,000 years
3: evolution occurred with no help from God

"In a recent U.S. poll, 45 per cent said God created humans, and 40 per cent said evolution was God guided. Only 15 per cent said God played no part in creation."

Seriously. On a previous question about the punishment of people that abuse animals, my answer was that they be forced to work in a animal shelter or a vet's office so that they learn to appreciate animals instead of abuse them. Now so far, I've gotten 5 downs for that answer.

So then I read what other people were putting. Basically, they were a bunch of answers that said "PUNISH PUNISH PUNISH." Now, none of them posted their religions, but because there were over 40 answers, I can assume that there was AT LEAST 10 Christians that answered that question.

Anyways, what's up? I thought you Christians were all about forgiveness.. ?
