Have no fear. I'm not sure what Islam has to say about death. But here's something Judaism says about death. I have my own reason to believe that Islam's view cannot be too far from this, if it is not similar.
Quote:
You're probably expecting me to depict a haunting scene of ghosts and goblins. But the Jewish concept of "heaven" and "hell" cannot be more different than the description found in medieval Christian texts or cartoons.
Yes, Judaism believes in punishment and reward in the afterlife. But in Judaism:
Hell is temporary -- not permanent.
Hell is a therapy -- not an imprisonment.
Hell is a consequence -- not a punishment.
Hell is a washing machine -- not a furnace.
Quote from http://www.chabad.org/library/article.htm/aid/516993/jewish/Im-scared-of-going-to-hell..html
This is my own personal understanding, not related to any religion or any believes: We live then die. Go to hell for some washing then get reincarnate again. This cycle will go on and on until we merit the World-To-Come, that is until we are righteous enough.

Islam says that death is just a simple transition to another “station” – similar to the transition from a mother’s womb into this world. You notice that when a baby is born, it starts to cry – because it is afraid of this new world, just as we fear death. If you look at it from the perspective that we are just “moving on” to a different place (and hopefully a better one, based on our actions), then there is no need for fear.
One of the Prophets once was approached by the Angel of Death and told that it was his time to die. At this the Prophet asked the angel, “Why would a friend (God) kill a friend (the Prophet)?” God responded “Why would a friend (the Prophet) refuse to come back to a friend (God)?” Look at it from this point of view – that we are going back to Allah, where we untimately belong – and death is put into better perspective.

I do not what islam say about it, but I viewed a true documentary of to Hell & Back and when this one Dr. who was an Athiest went to Hell he described it as "untold terror."
He said He did not know how to pray, but he began to cry out Jesus, Jesus and the Lord appeared and he decribes how he entered back into his body. I actually have the video tape of thsi documentary and if you want it e-mail be at san3291@yahoo.com and I will find another copy of it or send you the one I have. You can also go online to www.askjeeves.com and so portions of it.

Jesus is the answer to all your fears - why else would he take on the scariest challenge of this human life (death) and do it as a sacrifice that we might have ETERNAL life ? you are afraid because you do not have Jeus in your heart, or the holy spirit. - sandra P is totally right. the only way to gain peace in your soul is to live in christ. death is not a station, myth or man made invention. that is INCORRECT death is REAL, and if you die with out the one who died for you - your soul will be lost to hell. that is why your afraid, because deep deep down you know you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven. seek God, ask him to come into your heart and into your life. He will not fail you IF you trust in him. â¥

There is no Death.
This is a myth.
There is only Life.
Life ends.
But there is no Death.
It is a human invention.
Don't be scared of something that doesn't exist.
