Seriously. On a previous question about the punishment of people that abuse animals, my answer was that they be forced to work in a animal shelter or a vet's office so that they learn to appreciate animals instead of abuse them. Now so far, I've gotten 5 downs for that answer.
So then I read what other people were putting. Basically, they were a bunch of answers that said "PUNISH PUNISH PUNISH." Now, none of them posted their religions, but because there were over 40 answers, I can assume that there was AT LEAST 10 Christians that answered that question.
Anyways, what's up? I thought you Christians were all about forgiveness.. ?

I mean really, once they get out of jail, do you honestly think they'll stop abusing animals? I don't think so.

to Moonlit Hamlock: after jailtime, how do you know the abuse won't do it again? you don't. but by them finding an appreciation for animals, they probably won't be as likely to abuse them anymore. whereas if they are just thrown into jail, they may come to not like animals even ~more~

I think your judgement for punishment is outstanding, let them work around animals, thats very good and I would think that Vick may get that kind of Punishment to being a celebrity and all. Now what ever his punishment is once he has done it we have to let all the anger go and give him a chance again at life and at what ever he chooses to do. Jesus said forgive 70 x 7 everyday. Vick has said his apology. Now he will have to do whatever the judge says, but after he does that, he is square in my book, and Yes, I am a Christian and I believe in second chances everyday because I know Jesus forgives me everyday for the wrongs I do,,,,, God Bless YOU

I don't doubt people can change..I have seen it, but abusing animals is just a terrible thing and you don't want to put other animals in danger until you know they have. Forgiveness has nothing to do with being punished because you broke the law. The Bible says we are to obey the laws of the land unless they conflict with the Bible. So wanting them punished by the law, has nothing to do with forgiveness.
I do forgive Michael Vick and his cronies,,,with the help of God's love for them,,,,,, but I still think he should go to jail for what he did. If he found Jesus as he said,,he won't lose him in jail. Let's hope it wasn't a lie.
What upsets me, is Whoopie and Oprah, defending this man. There is absolutely no defense for what he did. As for Whoopie's remark about it being common in the South...excussssse me but I was raised in the South and have never heard of this type of cruelty...that remark was just disrepectful to us. But what else is new?

I'm a very forgiving person but when people blatantly abuse helpless animals there are consequences to our actions. If these idiots hurt animals they wouldn't think twice about hurting a child or anyone for that matter.

Unfortunately, just because someone answered the question does not mean that they are the ones who gave you the thumbs down.
I answered a question once where there were only 3 responses and I had at least 5 thumbs down.
Do the math. Someone who didn't answer the question decided to cast their opinion by giving thumbs downs.

Can I see the question?
Well, I saw the question. I'm not Christian, but I agreed with the one.
How do you know the abuser won't do it again?

Do you really think that someone who abuses helpless animals should get off scot-free? That everything should be forgiven? No one should ever be told "No"? There should be no consequences for wrong actions, because everything is right, nothing is wrong? Would it be okay with you if they abused your pet? You might be interested to know that the Bible also tells us that the righteous man is interested in the WELFARE of animals. (Proverbs) That means we don't abuse them, work them beyond their limits, feed and shelter them properly. and we don't condone the actions of those who do mistreat them--It is our responsibility to speak for those who can't speak for themselves.

By your logic, we should just have forgiven Ted Bundy or Jeff Dahmer, instead of putting them in jail as punishment.
God is first a God of Righteousness and Holiness.
As to your other question, I happen to agree with your original answer.

We are, but its really hard to forgive with all the nonsense other people engage in. Are you telling me its easy to forgive wrongdoing yourself?

That's exactly the thing. They ARE supposed to be about forgiveness. If they lived by Jesus's word, they would be.
