The most famous arguments for God's existence are the ''five ways” of Thomas Aquinas. One of them is the argument from design. The other four are versions of the ''first cause” argument, which we explore here.

The argument is really very simple: Everything needs an explanation. Nothing just is. Everything has some “sufficient reason” why it is.

Example: My parents caused me, my grandparents caused them, etc. But it's not that simple. I wouldn't be here without billions of causes, from the Big Bang through the cooling of the galaxies and the evolution of the protein molecule to the marriages of my ancestors. So the universe is a vast and complex chain of causes.

But does the universe as a whole have a cause? Is there a First Cause, an uncaused Cause, of the whole process?

Are all religious fundamentalists equally dangerous regardless of religion?
Example, Islamic fundamentalists following the way they interpret their religion flew aircraft into the WTC killing many Americans. American Christian fundamentalists following the way they interpret their religion send millions to support the Israel apartheid resulting in the deaths of many Palestinians. The only difference is the Christians don’t like to get their hands dirty yet people still end up getting dead through their actions. It's obvious Christians are willing to kill with their own hands considering the abortion clinic murders.

I was listening to "Don't Know When But A Day Is Gonna Come" by Bright Eyes, and I came across this lyric..."There is no truth.
There is only you and what you make the truth." I can see both sides of the argument. Just curious, what are your personal thoughts?

I have noticed that the Christian Right has taken on the stance of being a political force, thereby serving (or dis-serving) the State, while espousing their Christian beliefs, which , forgive me if I am wrong, state, " Be no part of this world", " Give Caesars things to Caesar, but God's things to God"
How do Christians rectify their stance? Are they Political, or are they what they say they are?

I have some of the beliefs of each of these, and not all of any one of them. Explanation:

Christianity: I believe Christ is the redeemer of the human race. However, I don't believe the Bible, as we know it, is inerrant. I believe a lot of it, but my interpretation is not always the typical fundamentalist view.

Buddhist: I believe in reincarnation and possible Nirvana. Meditation is extremely helpful in daily life.

Wiccan: I believe in a female Holy Spirit, as the Hebrew word for the Holy Spirit is feminine form of the word. i also believe that we should honor God's creation. However, I don't do any kind of spells or anything of that nature.

I used to have this friend that I new for 5 months. His sister set us up and we started talking on the phone a lot. He lives in a different state than I do and he’s 6 yrs. younger than me. When we first started talking on the phone he told me he had “Social Anxiety Disorder” which didn‘t bother me. While being friends with this guy I noticed some signs and thought maybe God was speaking to me. We both had birthdays on the 7th, his sisters birthday was also on the 7th, and the very first e-mail he sent me was on the 7th. Plus my friends hockey jersey number was 98, the year I graduated high school. One time I was talking on the phone with my friend and we were discussing our favorite movies. A few days later his favorite movie was on TV. During our friendship we both thought we were soulmates because we had so much in common. We liked doing the same type of things, our favorite show was “The Wonder Years”, we both enjoyed children, quotes, poems, board games, traveling, we both were Irish, and our families were sort of similar. We both were Catholic too. We also had really good chemistry which he told me over the phone. As our friendship grew he was supposed to come out and visit me but it never happened. Maybe that was because he had “Social Anxiety Disorder”. Him and I drifted apart at the end of the five months because of his personal issues. Just before our friendship ended, he told me had Depression & Bipolar. I believe God was trying to tell me something while I was friends with this guy. What kind of signs do you believe God was trying to tell me? Do you think these signs were good or bad?

... would come to be with you "soon" but refused to tell you exactly when, and who threatened to torture you if you ever strayed, but continued to insist they loved you more than anyone else ever could?

Would you consider that person worthy of having a "personal relationship" with you?
