Um, it's obvious by your slanted description what your opinion is. Who gets to define what true education is, or what a noble character is, and what defines selfish? Who gets to decide what path is "right"? (I'm betting you think you do.)

Education should be in learning how to think, not what to think, and in encouraging the joy of discovery, not slavishly memorizing ever more of one viewpoint. Each person should have the ability to find their own path, and decide for themselves if it is right for them.

Education is there to help individuals become productive members of society.

I'm not really sure why you think education has taken a wrong turn, since you do not provide examples.

A true education would be if you try and know enough to help you live a comfortable and smart life+more.
