The American $1 has George Washington on it, the $2 has Thomas Jefferson--both were Deists. The $5 has Abraham Lincoln--an atheist. The $100 bill has Ben Franklin,--a member of the notorious "Hellfire Club".
Christians don't seem to have problems with them.

I seriously doubt that any atheist is anal enough to not keep money on the principal that it mentions a god.
Conversely, are there any religious folk that are anal enough to avoid English £10 notes which have a portrait of Charles Darwin on the back?

1957, Joseph McCarthyism, height of the Red Scare, it was done to teach those nasty atheist Commies a lesson. Yup. That is when they got rid of the "E Pluribus Unum" and corrupted the Oath of Allegiance too.

"In God We Trust" is on the back
"This Note Is Legal Tender For All Debts, Public And Private" is on the front
Guess which one is more important?

Actually, I do one or both of two things to mine: Cross/white-out the words, and stamp the bills with a stamp that says "'GOD' IS PRETEND - IT'S JUST SUPERSTITION" (SMILEYFACE)
I don't pass along religious messages, but the money is mine - once corrected.

Well... you see... umm... some of us have more important things to think about than some trivial slogan on a piece of paper. I would rather debate the lack of evidence for your God and the ridiculous stories you tell about him.

I used my debit/credit card most of the time. That ATM is just to darn inconvenient and everybody takes plastic these days. None of my credit cards contain any references to any deities, so no problem there.
(BTW - The motto doesn't specify which "God", does it?)

So my money has the silly ramblings of a deluded population written on it. Oh well.
As long as I can exchange it for goods and services, I don't care what it says.
