I was listening to "Don't Know When But A Day Is Gonna Come" by Bright Eyes, and I came across this lyric..."There is no truth.
There is only you and what you make the truth." I can see both sides of the argument. Just curious, what are your personal thoughts?

Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons evrywhere
Ive looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on evryone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
Ive looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its cloud illusions I recall
I really dont know clouds at all

Moons and junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As evry fairy tale comes real
Ive looked at love that way

But now its just another show
You leave em laughing when you go
And if you care, dont let them know
Dont give yourself away

Ive looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
Its loves illusions I recall
I really dont know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say I love you right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
Ive looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say Ive changed
Well somethings lost, but somethings gained
In living evry day

Ive looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all
Ive looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all

Well the truth is a black and white subject. There's the truth and not the truth. The earth is round. That is the truth. Some times people just don't know the truth of a subject yet. Where do we go when we die? No one knows the truth to that. Except the dead.

The statement that "there is no truth" is a self canceling phrase. If there is no truth then that statement can't be true and there is truth. The idea that all truth is relative comes from the secular humanistic zeitgeist of this age and it appeals to people who don't want to face reality.

Everyone has their own truths to seek out and this is what defines their reality.
Not all truths are the same for all people, and my perception of reality could be and most likely is far different then yours.

All are valid and by practicing love tolerance and respect for all, we can each get closer to finding our own spiritual truths.

Since the singer is talking about not wanting to have self disipline, he is looking for an excuse to do what he wants regardless.

To take it to the extreme, you could use that belief to murder someone, if the death of the person is what you make your truth. In history, Hitler took the same belief to the same extreme.

It is an old question, does truth actually exist? On a religious note another level is added; is truth was it is because God declared it so or does God declare it so because it is truth. My personal belief is that truth exists, that there is a defined right and wrong, good and bad. And that God declares it because it is truth, i.e. truth exists independent of God and He willingly obeys it, which makes Him God.

There is no truth? What a statement! The statement, "There is no truth", itself is flawed. By making the statement ,"there is no truth," you have stated an absolute. And we know that truth is an absolute. So the statement contradicts itself. Its like saying, there is no such thing as black, but i'm using black ink.

There are some truths that are always true. If we don't believe in them it doesn't stop making them true.

At the same time I believe that our lives are somewhat shaped by our perception. To some extent, we see what we choose to see.

my personal thought is that bright eyes is weird.... but as far as the lyrics go, i think it is right on.
Each person has their own truth or their own beliefs, and what makes sense to you, is what you live by.

I choose atheism as others may choose christianity but we both think it is the right thing. it is our individual truths.

I like the lyric, and would probably agree with it....at least from an individual perspective.
