Does being obsessed with salvation make people shallow and self absorbed?
Would Jesus be sad that people are more concerned with that than with what he taught?

3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day" and the darkness "night."

And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

- 1 Genesis

14 Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them mark off the seasons, days, and years. 15 Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.” And that is what happened. 16 God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, 18 to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day.

- 1 Genesis

If the sun and moon were not created until the fourth day, what was the marker of the light & dark (day) for all the ones previous?

Some people I've read of, appear to really have to work to maintain their belief.

I don't understand this. for me, my beliefs come very naturally, they make sense, in large they fit together rather readily, I don't have to think about maintaining it... the course of events I experience, reafffirms it quite naturally.

I read of people having their faith challenged daily. ... I just can't see it. I *try* to find things to challenge my beliefs and my faith and confidence in God, ... even when I try I can't seem to find daily... oh heck weekly, things that I'd call "challenges to my faith" I imagine either the bar is set really low, or that faith isn't very stable to begin with.

so how about you. how much effort do you spend to maintain your beliefs/views. how hard is it for you to keep beliving as you do?

does it not appear to be the obviously, self-evident-ly true way to see the world, considering your experiences?

How can he be a "He"? It seems like he would be just as much "she" or "it" as "he"...

I have noticed in some of your comments that you think believing in God is an easy way out. I am not what most would acknowledge as a Christian, but I do believe. It is very hard. Athiests and other religions along with science provide enough "fact" to confuse anyone. As a scientific minded individual, I believe that the question(science) will always exist. I've read and heard explanations on how it happened, but nothing definite on what made it happen. Is that in the works? You may not agree with me, but I believe in both. Any thoughts on this?

Why should you have to become Satan to prove His divinity? Can he fight for Himself or is he sleeping?

I was robbed just over a week ago, but the police haven't done anything and it's pretty much fizzled out. Someone gave me the idea to put up many large posters and small banners all around the area of the theft with details of the appearance of my thief, informing others and asking for information. I'm willing to try anything to help catch this bastard and to ensure this doesn't repeat again and again.

Any other ideas of what I can do to get this out into the public and to let the thief know he's wanted?

I'm hoping my earlier question inspired all who believe in an all-powerful God, especially if you know an amputee, to pray for a new leg.

What? No, I'm not talking about prosthetic legs. I'm talking about real legs, and about a God who said he could do anything.

If he can do anything, what's stopping him from giving somebody a new leg?

This is an old question, and all you church folks are getting sick hearing about it. Yeah well I'm sick of hearing about your religion.

Also would love to hear from people who are Pagan who can advise me on some books to read which will explain more about paganism.

If you left the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses or Christian Science, would you please tell us why ??

2007-07-22 00:32:56 · 20 answers · asked by Anonymous

I am an open-minded person who likes to learn about all different religions. It helps me to figure out what I believe in. I used to study with Jehovah's Witnesses, but I ran into some serious issues that became obstacles to my being able to accept some of their philosophies. For example, is it true that you don't accept people into your church who smoke? That you kick people out if they don't pay their taxes? Is it true that you believe that women should be subservient to men? A few years ago some witnesses came to my door during a time when there had just been a majorly destructive hurricane in our country. I asked them if they were here to collect donations for the victims of the hurricane. They said no, that their church had already sent aid to their brothers and sisters. I asked them to clarify: did they mean that they sent aid ONLY to those who were Jehovah's Witnesses? And they said yes. Does "love thy neighbor" mean only love those who are of your faith?

Do you thnk all those you care about- your spouse, children, grandchildren, etc. will also be saved?
Or wouldn't it matter because you would forget that they had ever existed?
