Which state is the most conservative or strict?

One said "Would you rather have a child listen to you because they loved you or because they feared you?"

If it meant the difference between my child living and my child dying, would I care which?

Or should I be so fixated on my child loving me I'm willing to let him die if he doesn't? Because that is certainly the Christian model as described by more people than I care to remember (and with over 500 questions, that is a -lot- of people).

I loved my son enough that I'd have gladly suffered his hatred if it meant he continued to live. My love was never conditional upon him loving me back.

But the love of the christian god is -extremely- conditional, as he'll toss us into a lake of fire and brinstone if we fail to love him.

Is that what I see reflected in the answers I received from Christians to my previous question?

Seriosly, I've learned everything an atheist has learned about and thensome (cos i'm always reading) I know of evolution and don't care for it, so what? It's just a theory. I work, i go to school, i have a social life (that doesn't involve religion).

I don't live my life blindly, i'm constantly aware of my circumstances and how to deal with them.

I'm not "brainwashed" because i'm just like anyone else in a sense that i voice my opinions when i want them to be heard.

My life isn't exactly in a downward spiral cos i have a belief in God.

I deal with reason and logic all the time but not in regards to religion. I find reason and logic is respective of Philosophy (i've also taken courses on) in accordance to how i live my life.

Anyone i meet hasn't the slightest idea that i'm a Christian (i never let it be known either: not their concern), they just think i'ma cool guy.

So tell me, how am i any different than an Atheist aside from believing in God?

serious question.
How do you deal with a friend (more specifically a Christian "mentor" has really let you down) --- How do you get over the fact that you can't look at that person in the same light because they've totally dis-credited themselves.

(Looking to forgive and move on)

If you KNOW you could convince a very close relative AND friend(father) that thier beliefs were not logical and they would accept it, should you do it, even if it would totally destroy all hope they have?Is it better to die in denial than to live without any hope?

I and my family allowed my best friend to stay with us until she gets on her feet. She and her parents were not getting along to well, so she moved out. She has been with me for the past two weeks. I have explained to her my and my families belief (religion) months prior to moving in. She knew the in's the out's, do's and dont's. Nothing was a surprise. Tonight will be her last night here then she is moving back home. In my beliefs friday evening begins the day of reverence and worship to God. On this day from sunset to sunset wordly pleasures are not desired nor sought. My friend is aware of this despite that fact she still insisted to watch television even though she had been informed that the activity wasnot allowed on this nite. Also the program she had already seen a couple of days ago. I reminded her of this and she replied with quite an attitude retorting with "What does that have to do with me? I am not in your religion." This seemed very disrespectful to my family. Thoughts??

If you lost the life of your child, is there anything you would not do or change if it meant your child would be alive?

When I am told God gave us Free Will to sin, I think of it as God gave us the freedom to eat rat poison if we wanted.

What loving parent would give their child the freedom to do such a thing? Isn't that why we lock it away?

It makes no sense to say a loving God gave us the freedom to commit unspeakable evil upon one another. No truly loving God or parent could ignore the potential consequences of giving that much freedom to an immature species/child.

Mormons are probably the nicest, hard-working and often smartest people I've ever met. I get this feeling that many grew up in the church from a young age and can't leave it easily if they want to. I've heard it's very hard to leave the church. Do you think a lot of Mormons are just staying in it because their families and friends are in it and it's too hard to leave?
