i have to present the children's story this week. i want to take a traditional bible story and make my own modern version of it so the kids can more easily understand it.

what do you think is a good story they should know?

I think the story of Joseph is a wonderful lesson. It shows jealousy (his brothers), forgiveness (himself towards his brothers later), unconditional love (towards his brothers despite what they did to him) and how God used him to reach and educate others. Joseph never let the hardships pull him down because he had such a strong faith and trust in God.

the end :)

There are so many wonderful stories in the bible. I would suggest that you start with creation, but depending on the ages of your kids, it might be hard to grasp how man was formed from the dust of the ground and became a living soul.

Quite a few posters suggested Noah's Ark which is good, and in the book of Matthew, chapter 6, there are various sermons that Jesus gave to the crowds who came out to listen to him.....not only did he preach and teach them, he also showed hospitality by feeding them with a few fish and a few loaves of bread.

I think your children will enjoy whatever you read to them, especially if you put your heart into it.

I have a couple of suggestions.

I've always liked the story of Esther, because of the heroity she displays and how the "bad guy" (Haman) gets paid back at the end.

But Jonah is really good, too, because it shows that listening to God really IS the best way to go.

Otherwise, most of the other traditional stories (the Easter story, the Christmas story, etc.) are great to tell. Steer clear of stories that can be hard for children to understand, like the story of Job. Otherwise, good luck!

Ephesians 6:14-20 is a good one. My nephew is 9, and very into castles and knights, and he really liked how this showed him that his "armor" could be truth, righteousness, and peace...his "shield" would be faith; his "sword" would be God's word.

Taking a little toy knight that has removable armor in for a visual aid would help kids see the importance of our spiritual armor against the bad stuff in the world. This greatly helped my nephew deal with a schoolyard of gang kids, a world full of violent video games and headlines of war.

Other than that, you could go on for an hour on how the Golden Rule applies to a child. For example; sharing, teasing, hitting, helping, calling names, caring for each other, etc. My Dad used this to reason with us on just about every subject, and could even reason with a two year old!

Enjoy!

Mine became constantly the Christmas tale. i might constantly get scared whilst Mary and Joseph had problem, like with the inn keeper, and then i could be so relieved whilst he became born and that i might in basic terms go with to sing. My different one became Noah's ark with each and every of the animals. i became constantly fearful of God for the duration of that tale, yet on the tip I enjoyed him as constantly.

Old Testament...Noah, Goliath, Samson, Bathesheba (check spelling, and try not to focus too much on the "lust-will-destroy-you" message...

New Testament...(Just the Gospels...what comes after those is sheer poppycock...more so than what comes just before them...)

How about a NT story where Jesus was talking to the crowd and the disciples tried to keep the little children away; but Jesus wanted them brought to him so he rebuked his disciples?

the story teaches that God loves them very much, and they are very important to him.

Always a good message for children to recieve. (that they're wanted and loved)
