Hebrews makes it very clear that without holiness "no one will see the Lord" (Heb. 12:14). James 2:17 also teaches that faith without works is dead.

On the other hand, Acts 16:31 says, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved"? Paul affirms this same decisive act of salvation in Romans 10:9: "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

How do you reconcile the contradiction? What does your Church teach about salvation?

No one ever knew what type of plant it was did they?

But the effects of this was to make one gain spiritual knowledge that god did not want them to have right?

So was this tree a *pot* plant???

It certainly awakens the mind to things spiritual!

Hmmm I wonder?

Did the writers of the bible put that bit in to try to stop the youngens from smoking weed?
They will have to remember to be more specific next time!!!
LOL!!
So what do you think of my theory?

"One has to abandon altogether the search for security, and reach out to the risk of living with both arms. One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing."

The Bible suggests that mankind originated in the Middle East somewhere. All of the original Seven Wonders of the world were in or around the Mediterranean area. Not much was going on elsewhere in the world around 1000 BC.

Also, the Bible says there was a world wide flood. Interestingly, most other religions, including those of Native Americans, suggested that there was a massive flood. Also, oceanic fossils found on mountain tops suggest this to have been the case.

There is also a scripture in the Bible, written around 300 BC, that states "the earth hangs upon nothing." Around the same time, the Zoroastrians thought earth was being held up by elephants and the Greeks thought it was Atlas holding up earth.

Is all of this coincidence or does this make you have a certain amount of caution before writing off the Bible as fiction?

Why is that when a christian/jew/muslim etc. says their god exists because they have faith they think that's perfectly reasonable, but when I say I have faith in an invisible pink flying unicorn that rests on the rings of saturn and occasionally rapes catholic priests they think I'm being ridiculous. Neither beliefs seem to require proof when faith is involved, so are they al just being selfish?

This is God's "Perfect Plan"?

People who daily and deliberately ("free will") choose sin over God are supposed to teach me to love God more than sin?

If they can't do it themselves, what business have they trying to teach me? Surely their methods and practices are seriously flawed if even while proclaiming their love of God they continue to freely choose sin over god.

How can those who love sin (and Satan) more than God teach me to love God more than sin (and Satan)?

Just through interest, the Australian defense minister said yesterday that one of the reasons Australian troops are in Iraq is to help secure the oil supplies to the west. This is the first time that any government official I know of has admited to Iraq being largely about control of oil reserves. In the past they have outright denied any connection with oil.

Is that why Iraq got attacked but all the other muslim countries other than Afghanistan have been left alone.

Assuming you have a "free will" to exercise, how many times will you freely choose sin and reject God today?

If they are so looking forward to it, what's the point of here and now, does here and now mean nothing? why get married, have children, work, go to school etc., if "it's so near."

I went to rent a movie a couple of weeks ago and a JW friend of a friend asked if I had watched an unconvenient truth, I said no not yet, but I've heard about it. He said you need to rent this, this really shows that the end is near! It's coming! it was pretty disturbing.

When struck by the sudden realisation of one's size in the universe, is it just a common human emotional reaction to freak out, under which circumstances you would try desperately to console yourself, even with lies about there being something more powerful than the universe that cares for you? How did you feel when you arrived at this sudden realisation and what belief system or lack thereof do you possess now as a result? Be honest.

Each time I post a question to get an "intelligent" answer, I get "robots" who have been programmed from birth with this judeo-christian banana stories or atheists. Is there any scholars of religions on here who know MORE than just what is in this scrap book put together by lazy men called the "bible?"

I currently work at an airport and a soldier who was here to redeploy to Iraq was about to commit suicide outside the terminal due to his feelings on the war and everything that has transpired in his life since the war. A police officer spotted him and stopped him. (This was about a week ago.)

Do you think more good has come from this war or more bad? And please, give your reasons.
I want to ask here, because this is the section where I spend most of my time.

Read revelations, the 7 seals, and the writings about the popes and about how prophecies ended with this pope and St. Bendidict mentioned that he would have the last pope...meaning he would be from the benidictian order or in this case he took on his name! Floods in the plains, fires in the west, hurricanes in the south, heat waves in the southwest. Is the world rapidily ending? Tell me what you think and leave any other sources you think might be useful to this discussion.

Was this just written for the sake of discouraging the masses of the day from wanting to become educated?

Surely the community leaders at the time were aware that with knowledge comes power?

Why wouldn't a creator wish for his creations to learn as much as they could?

Don't you wish for YOUR children to get as full an education as possible?

Why have the tree there if you don't want people to eat from it?

I heard once that many many centuries ago there was actually a female Pope who was married and even had children in the Vatican. Also that is was common for priests to marry and have children. Is this true? If so what happened?

I've been unlucky enough to have had my account suspended around 6 or 7 times. Each time I've had a different name and avatar. It seems that when you have an animal or a funny pic, people will give you more respect.

Has anyone else noticed this?

First, all those looking for points save us the stupid replies, put in a letter, and get your points. Now, last night I was asleep but started to slowly wake up in stages. But I heard and felt like a small dog jumped up onto my bed. I even heard the bed squeak and felt like it was moving as if a small dog were walking on it. I just started staying in this place a few months ago and was still kind of out of it, so I thought it was one of the small dogs from my house. But then I realized that I wasn't at that house, and so I turned to see what it was but obviously nothing was there. I then turned back over and shut my eyes to go back to sleep when the bed started shaking a little, enough to where I could feel it and see the comforter wiggling. I held still to make sure it wasn't me somehow, and I realized it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't shaking bigtime or anything..just a small shake - but it was very late and nobody was up.If you have any ideas, please let me know.Worry or no?
