They have been worried or looking forward to the end since I was a small child. I remember thinking that I would not get to be in high school. I didn't think I would ever be this old!..JW's discouraged so many people from getting an education because the end was so close..(this was 38 or so years ago) and still the same thing..Now all grown up with a family of my own..No college education. Many people didn't have children, or get married or save..or the medical help they needed ....Having to deprogram my mind..which took many years..When you leave JW's ..of being in it for over 30 years..you feel like you are betraying Jehovah..when you are actually betraying man...
There is so much I could write about the JW's..They have ruined a lot of lives....
Most JW's are very happy people...They truly believe what the preach..with all of their hearts they believe it..They are good , honest, kind people..Just millions more are, that are not JW's. Christians do not live in fear of the things mentioned below either..
They know that God has a plan, and he is going to make a new heavens and new earth..They don't live in fear of the end...They love and worship God, not for some reward..or some punishment..but because they LOVE him..with all of their hearts..They believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, They trust God.
It is so sad..because once you "let go"..which is the hardest thing in the world to do..You research..you learn..You begin to understand what the Bible and Jesus is really all about..You realize..that you were never a real true Christian as you thought all of those years..You understand the deity of Christ , God and the Holy Spirit and you begin to finally get that close relationship with Jesus. with God..and the Holy Spirit that lives inside of each Christian.
Then you feel so sad for the JW's that are obeying man made rules..Obeying the WT..They think they are the only ones Preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God..But they are so wrong about that..
Just because they go door to door..doesn't mean they are preaching about Jesus and God..It doesn't mean they are reaching people..More people are falling out of their truth as more and more people realize that they have been mislead ..
JW's need to realize..they just may be the false religion that they hate so much..
Do JW's honestly thing they are the ONLY ones that have Gods favor? How could one be so judgeing of the rest of humans..Gods creation..Only he can judge that..But, somehow JW's think they are the ONLY ones..What a rude awakening you will have.

The Watchtower Society prophesied that Armageddon would come at 6 separate and distinct time periods and they were wrong. 1914 - "In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished by the end of 1914." (The Time is at Hand, 1902 edition, p. 99) Note: this same statement was contained in the 1908 edition of the same book. End of WW1: “The present great war in Europe is the beginning of the Armageddon of the Scriptures (Revelation 19:16-20). It will eventuate in the complete overthrow of all the systems of error which have so long oppressed the people of God and deluded the world”. (Pastor Russell's Sermons, 1915, p. 676) In the same year (1915), 1925 - “The period must end in 1925 . . . [This date] is definitely fixed in the Scriptures. Every thinking person can see that a great climax is at hand. The scriptures clearly indicate that the climax is the fall of Satan's empire and the full establishment of the Messianic kingdom . . . Therefore, it can be confidently said at this time that millions now living will never die”. (Golden Age, January 4, 1922, p. 217) 1975 - Watchtower, October 15, 1969 pages 622 and 623: "More recently earnest researchers of the Holy Bible have made a recheck of its chronology. According to their calculations the six millenniums of mankind's life on earth would end in the mid-seventies…. Would not, then, the end of six millenniums of mankind's laborious enslavement under Satan the Devil be the fitting time for Jehovah God to usher in a Sabbath millennium for all his human creatures? Yes, indeed! And his King Jesus Christ will be Lord of that Sabbath." Notice the use of the definite article “the”. It would be “the fitting time”, not “a fitting time” not “an appropriate time” but “THE FITTING TIME”, to the exclusion of all other times. “Yes, Indeed! And his King Jesus Christ will be Lord of that Sabbath”. Not “might be”, not “could be”, but “WILL BE”. • End of the 20th Century - Again in 1971, they said it would come in the 20th century: ”Shortly, within our twentieth century, the “battle in the day of Jehovah” will begin”. From: The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah - How? 1971 p. 216” Within the life span of the 1914 generation: Watchtower, 7/1/69 pg395: “People who were only just old enough to understand what was happening to the world in 1914 are now approaching seventy years of age. Yes, the numbers of that generation are dwindling fast, but before they all pass away this system must meet its end in the war of Armageddon.” None of the above happened and as of 1995, the above 1914 thing is wrong. I vaguely remember something about the preaching work stopping before Armageddon, but in my later as a Jo Ho, I don't remember them saying that.

Good morning :)
As to the why? Because a careful study of Bible prophecy will tell you we are living in what the Bible refers to as 'the last days" or "the end of this system of things" (2 Tim 3:1-5; Matthew chapters 24, 25.) But aside from that, I think any reasonable person would look at the world today and realize "something's gotta give". We're at the brink of SOMETHING. In fact, the first person to respond to your question knows it. It's just that most people refuse to acknowledge what that "something" is.
What about today? We don't know the day or the hour exactly so we live our lives as best we can, honoring Jehovah God, respecting our neighbors and caring for our families. We don't just sit in caves waiting for the end to come. If that were the case, wouldn't we all be doing that. Are we not all your workmakes, schoolmates, neighbors.
As far as the environment is concerned, it disturbs me greatly to see what humans have done to the earth. It was a gift to us and we've spoiled and plundered it through greed and mismanagement. It's why one of my favorite scriptures is Revelation 11:18. that says that God "will bring to ruin those ruining the earth,."
Have a super day.

JW's have the highest rate of predicting the wrong date that the 'end' will come. The Bible says no one knows the day. They preach about it because their religion is based on their good works instead of what Christ did on the cross (or 'stake' as they call it). There will be an end, and JW's, though many are good people, must come to realize that it is not by their good works (Eph 2:8-9, Titus 3:5-6), but because we stand before God as not guilty, not based on what we did, but because our punishment was paid for by Jesus.

It seems remarkably odd to refer to the optimistic confidence in the end of mankind's troubles as "pretty disturbing".
True Christians (such as Jehovah's Witnesses) recognize that faithful mankind should certainly NOT feel 'disturbed' by the bible's reassurances, but recognize there a promise to resolve the effects of pollution and other unrighteousness.
(Revelation 11:17,18) We thank you, Jehovah God, the Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and begun ruling as king...[to reward] those fearing your name, the small and the great, and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”
Perhaps this questioner should be reminded...
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear global warming.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear a new ice age.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear over-pollution.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear over-population.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear nuclear conflagration.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear hellfire.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear God's judgment.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not fear Armageddon.
Instead, Jehovah's Witnesses look to the future with optimism, confident in the perfect justice, wisdom, power, and love of God and Christ.
The Scriptures teach that God's Kingdom by Christ Jesus is a real government which will soon replace all earthly governments.
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite
That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.
Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire
While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]
Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind
