[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Examples:

1. Two people disobey god, so god punishes them and all of their children for untold thousands of years (Adam and Eve)

2. Some people in one part of the world are being bad, so god drowns the entire earth, killing innocent babies, children, and animals (Noah)

3. Pharaoh won't let Moses' people go, so god passes through egypt personally killing the first born male of all the egyptians from the lowest servant to pharaoh's own son, including their livestock (passover).

Is god a little extreme, and the greatest mass-murderer in history?

Or is it more plausible that he just doesn't exist?

Let's say that one day everybody in the world wakes up and has lost all intelligence. We do not know how to speak, use a computer, or even tie your shoes. All we know how to do is perform basic instinctual activities like walking and eating. Among all of the religious texts, how would we know which one is correct. On what would you base your decision? Would you choose to worship a Christian God, or Thor, or maybe even Zeus would be your supreme being? You cannot say you'd choose based on faith because you would not know anything about these religions. Even further, your parents would not be able to tell you what religion to believe because they would not know anything more than anybody else. Does this not show that there is absolutely no evidence for the existence of God?

"any graven image" of God, is the Church breaking this Commandment by placing images of Jesus on the cross in their churches? And are Christians sinning by wearing crucifixes with Jesus on them?

Speaking to religious leaders and devout Christians they will tell you Heaven is the only place that is perfect, sin free, peaceful, etc. If Heaven is a sin free domain of god's then that must mean I no longer have the free will to sin?

Either there was a first cause, which everything has resulted from, or there is an endless cause/effect ladder. Both are unsatisfactory. I'd like to hear the atheist perspective of the initial cause- and if you believe there wasn't an initial cause, why is there something instead of nothing?

circular logics are flawed

“The Bible is without error, because God says so - in the Bible.”
"The Qur'an is without error, because God says so - in the Qur'an .”
“The Tanakh is without error, because God says so - in the Tanakh .”
“My essay is without error, because I say so - in my essay

I am a non-denominational Christian male, and Satan has begin to tempt me with homosexuality. I need help, but I don't want to turn to family because that is embarrassing. It feels like I like boys and girls, but I don't know what to do. Satan is tempting me, and I don't want to like them. How can I make these feelings stop? Also has Satan ever tempted you with this? Thanks, I need alot of help.

they say that there are three levels of Heaven, Terrestrial, Tirestrial, (sp?) and Celestial. People like me who have never been baptised Morman or accepted the indisputable truth that Joseph Smith was a prophet, we go to the Terrestrial Kingdom, Morman backsliders go to the Tirestrial kingdom, and full-fledged temple-recommend Mormans go to the Celestial Kingdom.

A Morman once told me that if people knew how wonderful the Terrestrial Kingdom is, they'd be killing themselves to get there. I'm having a bad day, and I have no intention of converting to LDS, and neither do any of my relatives. So should I just kill myself, and all my loved ones, to get us all to this better place?

There seems to be lots of JW's jumping on the questions about their religion. Did the Watchtower group change their rules about it? Or, did the JW's that I know lie to me?

I attend a non-denominational church. They have read scriptures in church where it says that there is only one legitimate church for each city, just like in the Beginning. But how do I know what is correct? I believe what they teach at my church to be true because it always comes straight from the Bible and I have a spiritual connection to this church. But how do I know I'm at the right place and that I am really living my life right in the way of God? Sarcasm, and Non-Christian Believers need not apply!

I'm pretty new to Y! Answers, and this Religion & Spirituality section caught my eye pretty quick. Now, ever since I've been reading the questions and answers made by atheists, I've literally been driven *away* from atheism. I've questioned my faith before, but wouldn't I rather find peace than be a jerk like these guys?

This is all I could figure out that atheism might offer:
-Truth- as ignorant of a claim as any other religion
-Contentment- well, I'm content with my current faith
-No more wasted time on prayer, sacrifice, church, etc.- maybe I dont think it was a waste and I'm actually quite happy with this
-Only logical explanation- Logical? Science + Faith = you can't add apples and oranges, sorry. If people believe God created science, then how can you measure God through science?

Do any atheists, who aren't jerks, have anything to add that might change my mind? As for the ones who are jerks, thanks for confirming that atheism is a step away from peace.

A. Scott Berg had Katharine Hepburn's approval to write her book...he spent much time with her...and much of the book is her own words. Mr. Berg also interviewed employees, friends, co-workers and much of the book contains stories of their interaction with her. Mr. Berg likewise wrote about his conversations with Ms. Hepburn and brought his interpretation of the stories into the writings after studying her papers, contracts, etc...

So, this book is "inspired" by Katharine Hepburn, but written by A. Scott Berg. Is everything in this book exactly as it happened? Probably not...many musings were stories told by others of their interpretation of events...many musings are Mr. Bergs thoughts about the lady.

II Timothy 3:16 says all scripture is given by inspiration of God...likewise the Bible was inspired by God...but, written by human beings. Why can you not realize that these authors brought into their writings their own ideas, prejudices and customs of the day into their book.

I'm honestly thinking about becoming a Christian again. It's because of Fundamental and Evangelical Christianity that I'm not. They're all up in your face. To be quite honest with you if I had been in a Liberal Christian church or branch of Christianity I might still be a Christian. To be honest with you the reason why I left Christianity was because I was in a Fundamentalist and Evangelical type Christian church. I ended up getting baptized when my heart wasn't in it simply to appease the masses and shut them up so that they could leave me alone as they were all in my face and I felt pressured to being baptized. I'm pretty liberal in my approach to dealing with people and i like how Liberal Christians act and carry themselves. What are some Liberal Christians denominations and sects? And what's the best way of going about becoming a Christian again and walking that lifestyle?

Do you think any divine intervention played a roll in this?

(CNN) -- Hundreds of homeless people in Nashville, Tennessee, ate well Wednesday evening -- all in the name of a man who the state put to death just hours earlier.

Philip Workman, 53, requested that his final meal be a vegetarian pizza donated to any homeless person located near Riverbend Maximum Security Institution.
He was executed there at 2 a.m. ET Wednesday.
But prison officials refused to honor his request, saying that they do not donate to charities.
That apparently upset a few people willing to pay for and deliver a lot of pies themselves.
Homeless shelters across Nashville were inundated with donated pizzas all Wednesday.

Why do people assume that just because some of us are atheist, we are somehow affiliated with each other? Don't you think that the connection would be made that there is actually NOTHING linking us together other than our lack of beliefs?
