There have been attempts to prove the efficacy of prayer.

For example, a bit study, with 3 groups: not prayed for, told they're prayed for (half were, half weren't).

I doubt Discovery Channel would want them to do such a hot topic. That would probably offend a lot of people if they put religious stuff on Mythbusters. Penn and Teller's show on Showtime (the name goes against community guidelines) would probably do that topic, though. You can even put the suggestion up on a discussion board at their website. I went there and suggested they discuss the breastfeeding vs. formula debate, and they actually did an episode on it.

How are you going to test prayer?
Do a very specific prayer - Please God send me exactly $43.92 - and see if the money shows up. But these kinds of prayers are invalid in some religions.
How about - Please God, give me courage - how do you test lack of courage before the prayer and availability afterward.

They have scientifically tested prayer and found prayer has no effect. (you can search for the research on google as well as I can).

Penn and Teller did an entertaining myth-busting on the Bible:
